Interesting. Right behind Toyota and above other japanese automakers. Which many on here compare to saying they are more reliable. In some senses but at the end of the day it seems people still love their BMW.

Also interesting to see Ford and such so high. It shows that American automakers can make an ok car still. Also glad to see Jeep is last. The new ones blow. My girlfriend's mom owns a 5 year old cherokee I believe it is. And that thing has had issues every other week.

Well, I'm happy for BMW, surprised that Nissan performed under the industry avg, and happy that Chrysler is ranked so low (and sad for the US auto industry). Glad to see that Ford isn't at the bottom, and slightly curious at how much lower (but not by much) VW's rank is than I expected.

Buick gives old people exactly what they want, a pretty reliable car with good service that has big doors to get into, lots of room, large recliner like seats, suspension that float on the highway, and decent power and gas mileage.

As they try to market their cars to other segments of the market as they are doing they may find that people will be more critical.


Satisfaction is a very vague thing because it differs based on what you bought the car for. Someone who wanted a good driving car would not be satisfied with a buick while someone who wanted a large quiet ride that floats on the highway wouldn't be satisfied with a BMW.

really, it seems this table is being misunderstood by some.
this isn't an index of engineering quality.
it is a survey of owner satisfaction. which means, if you bought a mercury with realistic expectations (low price, mediocre design/fit/finish, sketchy reliability) then you weren't terribly disappointed.
the hyundai is ranked above mercedes. that doesn't make the hyundai superior to mercedes.

statistics are dumb. did you ever hear about the man who drowned in a lake with an average depth of a foot?

True. Most if not all 'reliability' or 'satisfaction' results of various auto manufacturers should be taken as a grain of salt. JD Power, probably one of the more well known publisher also uses 'Customer Satisfaction' and seriously flawed 'Problems per vehicle' rating to compile a ranking in car reliability.
