2009 M3
When will the 2009 M3's arrive in the states? I realize that the next model year 3 series arrives late Sept., but what are the best guesses as to if the M will follow suit?

Somebody dug out production/model data for the E46 M3 in another thread. That was apparently also introduced in Feb in the US (despite a Fall release in Europe), and the next model year cars were produced in the September of the same year. I would guess that you would be able to order a 2009 M3 in August, and get it late September. If they can't deliver my car in April, I will wait until September as I will be gone for a couple of months over the summer. I wonder how much of a price hike the 2009s will experience?

I don't blame you for waiting if that happens. Will you go with M-DCT if that occurs? |

I am referring to someone else's post, and I have not checked the accuracy of the E46 production info. He seemed to know what he was talking about though.

You mean clutch pedal-less?

I just put down a deposit for an '09 today. I'm one of their early allocations for the MY09 so hopefully that means a fall delivery if they are able to fill all of their '08 customer orders during MY08.

For a 2009, I will go both pedal-less and clutch-less and even dual clutch-less and opt for the new M-CVT with 20 driving modes that have nothing to do with gearing or shifting. I hear the car will simply drive itself--even on a track including the Ring!
Actually, I don't know. It would depend on if I can drive a DCT car by then. I really do not want to order DCT without driving it. If Swamp starts posting suicidal posts in a couple of months, then we'll all know not to order it for sure! |

Interesting. Does your vehicle inquiry report say 2009 M3 on it?

I have no VIR yet, just a spot in line. Nothing spec'ed thus far. I drove a 335i for the first time while I was there and was impressed. Very nice car.

I did this as well to test the 6MT tranmission. I am pretty sure the gearboxes are essentially the same. Agreed that it is a very nice ride. |

its been a while on this topic, but wondered what your thoughts would be on a possible decrease in MSRP. i know that many are saying that the price will go up because of inflation, precedence, and a poor economy, but i'm starting to think it might be smarter to lower the MSRP. if BMW is planning to sell 100k units, i think it might be getting a wake up call that it might have priced the M3 wrong given current conditions...yeah, its a lot of speculation, but what do you think? |
