Mode Carbon GT4 Splitter - Skid Plate saved me!!

So I did some serious damage to my skid plate the other day. My car is pretty low and I have an inclined driveway so the plate was definitely taking daily scrapes up and down the driveway and driving on the streets. But I finally did some serious damage when I nicked a pretty deep pot hole.

I thought my lip was done for. With the help of my buddy we got the car up on the lift and removed the bumper, lip, and skid plate to find out that the skid plate totally saved my ass!!

I was literally in shock to find that my splitter was pretty much unscathed with the exception of a few minor nicks on the front edge that should likely buff out or can be touched up with some black paint.

Just wanted to share this with you guys... I know a lot of guys have added skid plates but I dont think anyone had shown pics yet of how well they work Just saved me $1400!!!

Nothing like the uncomfortable sound of it scraping, but then realizing it is just your skid plate saving your ass. Been through this and know the feeling! Glad your lip is still in great shape!

Yeah I was stoked to find out I wasnt going to have to shell out all that cash for a new lip.

This skid plate has been my best investment to date for my car!!

Yeah no problem, sorry should have added that. I ordered mine from mrgraceco.com. They make them for most of the mode carbon lips. I heard about it from one of the other forum members who got one for his gtsv2. I think it was edwinm3.

I had MRF Engineering make mine. He uses a little thicker Aluminum than the OP's skid plate. Mine has saved me many times as well!

so the skid plate runs a bit larger in front of the lip in order to absorb impacts head on?

It's a SKID plate. It sits under the lip. Like a skid plate would.

Actually every one I have ever seen extends about a 1/4-1/2" beyond the front of the lip so that it impacts objects prior to making contact with the carbon fiber. But yes it also protects the underside as well.

Yes, but don't let anyone think this will help with a head on impact. It's purpose is really to be a sacrificial piece to preserve the lower area. It may help front on, but that's being optimistic at best.

I will just leave this one thing here. Do you see the part that is completely bent backward? That was the part that made initial contact with the pot hole. So I'm pretty sure it helped more than just a little bit.

Roads suck all over the place. Unless you only drive in Orange County, CA there are shitty roads all over LA. But I'm sure they would be much worse here if we had weather to deal with. But nonetheless, Im glad this thing saved me.
