Although I haven't played iRacing, i think driving simulators do have the benefit of learning the track and baseline familiarity. However, nothing can simulate when you go around the roval and feeling those G forces or getting close to that wall.

I would also recommend watching videos of ACS on youtube from members on here. I know there should be a surplus of videos to choose from.

Yeah, that's the unfortunate part. I practice with the Miata and the Z4 to get familiar with the track at two extremes. Despite the cars not being a close match I still found it to be fantastic practice before going to Sonoma and Laguna Seca for the first times.

You should check out Project Cars. No ACS but it has the others and Big Willow too. I have iRacing too but PCars is superior for learning tracks.

Do you like it more than gran turismo?

VR is a game changer. If you can afford to set it up I highly recommend it. Asetto Corsa has the E92 M3 stock car and it feels very close to the real thing in VR. It's European centric but driving on Spa and the Nurburgring is fantastic!!

Project CARS is fantastic too, but you get the E92 GT4 car and your times will be way better. The Sonoma and Laguna Seca tracks feel great.

I am a big fan of DIRT Rally because it gets you into feeling the weight transfer of the car in a natural way. Can't recommend it enough.

I like iRacing as well, again, car selection is limited but the tracks are fantastic. Coat is high though as every thing requires money.

VR + chair + force feedback wheel and pedals + good PC costs a couple track days but you can literally "hit the track" whenever you feel like it.

No comparison. I have a pretty sweet 3 monitor sim setup.

I've looked at a couple of VR units but don't know much about any of them. What the one to have for sim racing?

Nor does it test your balls around the bank. In iracing I would see what happens if I didn't lift. In real life you can't really do that. Lol

I've been using Oculus, so I can only really say what my experience has been with that. Supposed to have less ghosting than the Vive, but there is a screen door effect with the Oculus that supposedly isn't as prevalent in the Vive. Oculus has facebook money behind it, so I expect support for it to be generally better than Vive.

I'll be picking up Playstation VR when the next Gran Turismo comes out in 2030.

I love gran turismo. Maybe not 100% there, but the way the game plays really does it for me. Might not be a hardcore simulator, but he principles are there.

What tracks are you guys planning on going to early next year?

I'm thinking

1/22 ACS
2/11 Chuckwalla
3/4 Buttonwillow

That might change depending on other organizers releasing their 2017 schedules and which events are Bimmer Challenge (might as well sign up since I run Maxxis tires).

I'll be at Chuckwalla that weekend as well. Signups are pretty light so far. Less than 10 for the open passing group.
