Trying to get a loan from a bank to buy a co-op in NY... It's my first time, which bank is better to go to? I think I am going to head out tomorrow but need a plan first .

Hudson City Savings Bank. Tougher credit approval process, but they're well-run and highly unlikely they'll go under.

NO. NYC is a unique market esp when it comes to coops because not every bank will approve every building so the same person could qualify for different rates depending on which building they buy in or get quoted a rate that doesn't apply to them. PM me the down payment, loan amount, income, credit scores, ect and I'll help you out... also I need to know how much you have have liquid after closing... and bank guidelines can change at any time so I would not try to find one bank but find a banker or broker.

they don't lend in manhattan... I think OP would have better luck in fort lee because with a 60k down payment in Manhattan he might be able to find a box. a lot of banks have sq foot requirements for coops and condos...
