To buy an M3 now or wait for F80 M3

I was wondering if you guys would recommend I purchase a 2012 m3 now, or wait for the F30 M3 to come out?

How long would the wait be if I were to wait?

I have never even driven an M3, can you tell me what it's like to own one and drive daily?

Just wanted to get your opinion since you guys have been driving the car for years.

I appreciate any advice that you can give me. Thank you.

Agreed. I have about 11,000 miles on my 2011, and I have zero urge to make a change when the new model comes out.

As for a daily driver? It would be fantastic. I drive about 30,000 miles a year, so I got a 335d to abuse for that role and I drive the M3 primarily on weekends. But the M3's handling and exhaust roar (I have an Eisenmann race) are magnificent without being harsh.

E9x M3 = First and possibly last V8 n/a motor. There's NOTHING like the growl of 8 cylinders.

I'd wait for the F30. Don't get me wrong, the E9X is a sweet car and that V8 is gorgeous, but designs get old and when the new one comes out, the old one becomes passee. I love my E92 and it's definitely a keeper for me, but that's not going to stop me from wanting an F30 when it comes out.

Buy now. Help save the economy. Upgrade later, and boost economy again!

Smile

I say test drive a e92 and if someone would allow you to test drive a turbo bimmer, you would be able to see the diff between how the engines behave.

Get the e92 now and when the f30 comes out and you like it more, trade in, MHO.

Cheers

Buy Now 2011 Xcp & Up M3 V8

If you can pick up a preowned then move it in 18 to 24 months when your ready for the new M. I found a loaded 2011 E92 all options ZCP 77k MSRP 6k miles for 61k + TTL. Take advantage of the bad economy and low interest rates. Then in two years when the new one comes out trade it in you should make money on the trade since the first owner took the hit. + if you dont like the new car you dont have to make the move.

If you want to keep reving only to 7400 or even lower when the new M3 is out, wait for the next M3. If you want a high rev engine that makes you smile everytime you floor the gas pedal, get an e90 or e92 now

+1 I love the dash hump for the nav system. I prefer the simple interior that M3 offers rather than the high tech merc ones.

The wait will be more than a year or two years. There will be no 2013 M3, if I'm not mistaken. The new F30 M3 will be 2014 MY so maybe you can get one at the later part of 2013 as a 2014 MY.

I currently have the e92 and I love it but there are many things I want for my vehicle that I just don't want to shell out for. Ex. I want bigger multipiston brakes, I want newer idrive (I have an 08) I want more power (much cheaper power with turbos). And while I don't care about mileage I am sure the new one will be substantially better mpg, another plus. I will miss my NA motor and throttle response but at the end of the day I can spend 20k+ to get idrive/brakes/ESS upgrades or I can just wait for the F82 and just get save myself the trouble of most of those expenses on a car out of warranty that will still most likely be slower than the new model.

+1! It is still going to be at least 2 or 3 years before we see a new M3 coupe. That is plenty of time to still enjoy the E9X M3 and then upgrade when the next one comes out.

Do you want a coupe with a V8 or a sedan with a 6 cylinder turbo? It is that simple.

Two years or so.

It's exactly like driving one once, except its happens a lot more often.

Depends on how much money you have. If you can take the loss, get a fully loaded M3 now, and see if I like the next generation. If on a limited budget, hold on to the cash and wait...

get a pre-owned one - TONS of them out there. Then wait until the price of the new one comes down (for sure there will be some stupid dealer premium on it) over another year or so. I LOVE my 2012 M3. I drive only 15 minutes to and from work everyday.....It's the greatest 30 min of my day Cool thing about the later model M3s is the gadgetry it comes with....Nav system connected to Google Maps, Pandora, Bluetooth stuff....etc.

Agreed, get a used one to enjoy for now and then see if the new one is any good. Unless you can't stand driving a used car or something.

Well, I'm convinced. The idea of buying one and driving it until the F30 M3 is available without huge dealer markups is a good idea. That's if I even want to trade it in. This could be at the end of 2014 or even early 2015, which is a long time from now. Do you guys have any idea how long it would take to have one built to my specification and then delivered to me?

I live in Oakville, Ontario (Canada) if that helps. Again, any feedback is very much appreciated.
