According to the link below there are over 60,156 E9x M3's, which means that even if all 36 motors failed that is a very very small percentage of the total number of motors that failed. I just don't see why there is so much fuss...

I will also be Messaging owners who recorded failures in a previous thread to get their information.
My car is fine and will be under extended warranty as long as I own it so this is just as a matter of interest for me.
I'll add the data to this post and the "bearing" thread when its all in.
I've asked for:
Location
Month/year of production
MT/DCT
Mileage
If Engine modified
If ECU tuned
Reason for fail.
If you're going to ask if the ECU is tuned, then you need to ask whose tune is in the car. Are you asking which tune is in the car?

No, the questions were as listed.....if it looks like having an ECU tune is a factor then I can always go back and ask that question.
The problem is more the 15 posters who haven't answered.
I suspect a good number of them voted by mistake, given that actually having a blown engine is an incentive to reply while voting by mistake isn't.
I'll give it a few more days then re-message. It will be a shame not to get a full set of answers, as when combined with the other thread it would give a better idea of whats going on.

SenorFP, I know of people not on here and also people who are, that haven't voted. Most forum members I have spoken to with failed bearings haven't voted in this thread

My bearing thread isn't about blown motors, it'a about clearance measurements. The passion is just to help people. So I'm not tracking blown motors, and no plans to do so. But I am putting the finishing touches on the "redo of 2014." Might finish it tonight, but most likely tomorrow.

This is not a surprise. I've warned against this in the bearing thread more than once. I'll bet most of those 15 people aren't even on this forum any longer, don't own the cars, and/or have changed email addresses and don't know you're PMing them. I've tried to explain why these polls and attempts to get these numbers just from forum members is flawed. You're getting the exact results I expected...and you're ignoring the 8 photos I posted of blown motors -- even tough I think I gave the details on six of the eight.

If blown motors are so common it seems like this guy should have an easier time finding a car: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=925946

I bought one six months ago under $30k, included new AA stage-3 supercharger with meth, new racing clutch, AA exhaust, and roll cage. New parts had 1k miles on them. Car was in very clean shape...but engine was blown.

i think this has nothing to do with what year the car was made. I believe its all about how many miles and how you maintained your car over the years. I dont think bmw has made any change to the engine over the years, so the question should be what mileage and what are your driving habits more so that what year. Knowing that there is an issue with the oil and the clearness one should take a few extra minutes to let the car warm up and get to temp as i believe most of the harm is caused when the engine oil is cold.. my 2 cents
