Exclamation DINAN TO BUILD 630 HP M3 (628hp 5.7L V10)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Dinan just told Modified Luxury & Exotics that Dinan Cars will build an M3 with the company's just-released 628hp 5.7-liter V-10 stroker engine.

The vehicle will be released in roughly a year, well after the 4.6-liter stroker kit for the new M3 comes out. (Dinan says the stroked M3 should be available no later than the new year).

While other tuners (such as Hartge, Hamann and AC Schnitzer) have dropped the BMW V-10 engine into either the M3 or 335, this stroked engine will make the Dinan M3 the most powerful to date. "We also plan on lightening up the front end so it handles properly," says Dinan.

Steven Dinan let the news slip when Modified Luxury & Exotics visited the Dinan facility to test the company's M6 which is equipped with the monstrously powerful V-10 engine.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dinan were to do this. They've had those stroker engines for the M5/M6, and it makes sense for them to find a new application for them with minimal development costs. The autoblog article claims they will shed weight off the front to maintain weight balance, but I don't see how exactly.

Most of the front in alloys, the front wings are plastic and I think the hood in alloy too. Does anyone know the weight comparison between the V8 and the V10, it has to be another 25kgs at least and then there is the problem of the engine having two extra cylinders pushed even near the nose.

It may be quick in a straight line but I can't see how they are going to keep that M3 handling finesse and balance and with that extra power I reckon it will be a scary ride on anything other than a smooth surface.

It sounds like a 993 GT2 in the making. Or in other words, a widow maker.

Well here was the word on the stroker kit for the M3.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...nan+M3+Stroker

You can watch Steve Dinan talk about it in Post #8.

I wouldnt be surprised to see them add weight to the rear of the car to offset the newly added front weight if they cant get enough off the front end.

I personally would prefer the stroker kit for the m3 if it wasnt gonna cost so much.

do you think they would upgrade the rear differential to handle the increased power? that could offset the increased weight in the front

also i'm sure the braking system and wheels/tires will be reworked also making room for adjusting the weight balance of the car

Based on what you are suggesting, they might as well sell the whole car instead of the laundry list of mods it will take to get this done.

Definitely cool and very interested to watch the progress but Dinan will probably ask for $65,000 + your first born male.

The stroker for the V8 won't upset the balance and will make plenty of power. It will be a challenge to make the V10 work with DCT as well. Plus, when superchargers hit the V8 more power will be available for far, FAR less money.

any reasonable guesses as to how much this will cost or how much the stroker kit for the v8 will be about?

Good place to start would be with the pricing of the kit for the V10.
