I wonder with cars like ferrari's if the speedos are more accurate. We've gone 178 in our F430 spider as well, and the nav actually read about 1mph off. D |

There is. Non-M BMWs are limited to 250 kph (155) and M cars to 275 (171).
And federal law prohibits speedos less than 0% pessimistic and more than 5% optimistic, by the way, but they rarely are that off on cars (motorcycles are usually off by that much in my experience). Good day. |

Yes there is. According to the BMW USA website it is set at 155mph.
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx Of course it can be easily turned off through a software tune. |

what is worse than the speedo being slightly generous is the odometer being equally as generous! I could care less about a couple MPH difference, but over the life of the car I really don't want extra miles on it when it comes time for resale!

This programming tweak is designed to insure that your indicated speed always reads higher than your actual speed. (approx. 5-7% more optimistic) In addition to this... You also have to factor in the 'normal' speedometer error you already have with instruments of this type...and the combined "stacked tolerances" can give you a total speedometer error of close to 10% on some models. (this percentage varies from car to car) But the good news is.. The Odometer reading is not a contrived number that is manipulated by the ECU software. This value is calculated in an entirely different manner. Our cars total mileage is precisely calculated from the very accurate revolutions per mile readings obtained from our wheel speed sensors. So there is no need to worry about disproportionately high "excessive mileage" readings in regards to the Odometer.

I peaked at 170 mph on the speedo with an actual speed of 160-161 mph. Power did cut at that speed, the car was still pulling up to the limiter.

I was driving the silver Mercedes CL65. I also made some passes in the silver C63 from Renntech. |

I think I missed the CL65 but the C63 was real nice. It sounded real good too. Do you know how much power its putting down and what was your best time? I know it had one run @ 169.x mph, right?

Ran the CL65 three times. Two at almost 184 and last one was 185. I think I shocked a few people since some modified Ford GTs and Porsche Turbos were running in that vicinity. I was a little surprised myself. CL65 has Renntech ECU, Airbox, and limited slip diff. Stock exhaust and stock turbos. Puts down a little over 600 to wheels. Ran my M5 at last event out there, but heard their timing devices were a little screwed up. In any event, M5 went just shy of 170 on their radar. By the way, your car sounded amazing and you should be very proud. Your car ran faster than alot of Vipers and Corvettes. I don't think the Ferrari F40 hit 170. I had 1 run in which the timing devices didnt read one of my runs. Next time, I'll definitely get there earlier. Those are some impressive numbers for your MBs, especially on the CL65 |
