The day F1 cars start using transmissions with torque converters then I'm sold.*

For some reason I missed this quote the first time I saw this: "At the moment, the only advantage of the twin-clutch is that it allows you to rev past 7000rpm".

Given that BMW is going to lower-revving turbo motors, I guess DCT is more of an endangered species than 6MT. But I still think that in 10 years nobody will be able to steal my 6MT because they'll be looking for the video game controller to shift :-)

^^Well, by look of BMs future gearbox intentions i certainly can't see their new turbos being stratospheric. Maybe they will move to turbo diesel in the next gen M .

And yet the M5 just debuted with a Getrag 7DCT. Panamera Turbo, an M5 competitor also uses a DCT. RS6, another M5 competitor, will almost certainly use a DCT. E63 will likely continue with the slushbox. 3 out of 4 aint bad.

Same for other segments if you look at what's out there. Look at Ford's Powershift Automatics, which will proliferate most of their passenger car lineup by end of decade. These are DCTs underneath the covers.

Sure, torque converters and planetary autos are getting better, but so are DCTs. They aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Further into the future, who knows.
