E92 VS E60

Okay guys, my friend wants to pick up an 08 M5 Sedan (Stock) but he only wants it because of the V10. So i was wondering, with a 2013 M3 with M performance exhaust and the test pipes (22hp & 18T) will i be able to keep up?
He is going to get SMG or whatever it's called, i have a traditional Manual.

From my understanding my M3 weights 350 pounds lighter. (M Performance Cuts 40 pounds plus my test pipes and other goods that cut weight). plus i have about 440hp and 315 T (not to the wheels). M5 has 500hp and like 383 T.

consider the M5 being 5 years older, which in theory may lose hp.

He will pull on you at first, until his SMG decides to self destruct, and you will be able to pass him in your MT

According to BMW the MPE cuts "approximately 40%, or about 20 lbs":

With M3 mods and your friend stock, both have a weight/power of ~8.2, so pretty evenly matched theoretically (and I also encountered an E60M5 on hwy..don't know how hard he was pushing, but I was pulling away slightly and I have bolt ons, fwiw). With tune (including a raised rev limit) and pulley you may be able to extract another ~15-20hp, assuming u have high flow intake/filter, which may be potentially beneficial at the top end. On the other hand, he can do quite a few simple things mod-wise to bring that ratio below 8, in which case he would theoretically be quicker.

There is no replacement for displacement. It will take on you at higher speeds.

But I would take the lighter M3 anyday. Its the faster car around corners

The v10 is the selling point on that car.

I raced a smg m5 multiple times in my 10'M3 DCT and I pulled home every time. We never got over 110 though and all I had at the time was and AFE intake. I was in MDM he had everything off

Agreed, my m6 was a complete pig around a track. I figured the 200lbs would be offset by the v10, and it was but the dynamics just weren't there. And yes the v10 will put bus length on an m3. And mod for mod the s85 responds well! My evolve s2 tune and secondary cat delete picked up 30whp at a total of 465whp at eas dyno

As an owner or an E60 M5 you don't stand a chance, especially if its a rolling start. Off the line you can take him but he will reel you in pretty quick! The SMG shifts pretty hard and fast, not as fast as the DCT, but faster then you can do it manually. Have fun though and be safe.

he'll pull on you on 3rd gear... But the test pipes evens it out a bit, apparantly that's where most of the power can be extracted on the M3.

Raced my brother's M5 SMG in the M3 DCT. The M5 was a bit quicker but the M3 corners harder. With your mods, he should still pull on you at higher speeds. On the track, the M3 will leave it behind.

I'm assuming if you didn't get up to 110, you ran him from a dig. Of course the M3 will take the M5.

Roll race and you'll be reading that M5's license plate.
