SoCal + Radar Detector

Is it honestly needed in the SoCal region?
I haven't seen a single cop hiding out with his rador left on.

yes I know there are tons of CHPs on the highway, but how many of them are hiding out with their rador on?

They either use laser from the helicoptors, or instant on, which in both cases your radar detector is useless. Also, from what I have witnessed so far, the cops just sneak up behind you, stay in your blind spot, pace with you for a few seconds, then just pull you over, with no radar at all involved.

I'm not questioning whether or not I should purchase, since I already have a V1, I'm just wondering is it even necessary at all anymore in SoCal, cuz I spot more cops with my bare eye rather than my detector going off.

When I was living in other states before, the V1 was a life saver. In SoCal, it just a big piece of junk on the windshield that's a potentioal window smasher.

Highway + canyons for sure.

Only negative part is that it will pickup truckers and other type of cars that have some kind of radar. But once you hear that KA band you're 100% sure its CHP.

Also why leave it on the windshield when you're not in the car? Takes 5seconds to just disconnected it from power and put in the glove box when you have it hard wired.

You're using the wrong one, or you're using it wrong. My V1 has saved my ass plenty on the freeway.

pacing with everyone on the highway is technically speeding...

but then...

you want me to follow the dipshits on the left lane who's going 60 mph...?
fuck that!!!

gotta weave through the carpool lane or the shoulder or between cars or jump over him whatever the heck to get past the assholes who have no idea what a left lane is for..

oh and socal people.

Please explain to me why people slow down to 40mph when they go around a curve, and why do they almost come to a complete stop when there's an accident ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GODDAMN HIGHWAY????!!!

hey hey hey I told you, i was dreaming when I hit 186!

It couldn't have possibly happened! Even if the road had no traffic, it was downhill, with the limiter removed.

Unless you check my dream's speed log...

That's called rubbernecking. People are slowing down to look, since they treat every accident that they see like it's their first.

Welcome to California, where people's use of public transportation is inversely proportional to the actual need to have most people use it.

Oh, my friend and I almost got hit by a drunk girl driving straight at us in our lane. She must have been piss drunk. Drive safe everyone.

I love my V1. I have one in all 3 vehicles plus one going in the M. If it saves you one time it just about pays for itself. I wouldn't hesitate to have one.

If you do any sort of long range freeway driving the radar detector is a must in So Cal. It probably saved me from 4 or 5 tickets in the past few years through early warning.

For around town freeway driving under 85mph its pointless to even pull it out for the most part (since you are going with the flow of traffic)...if you want to go faster, or are driving the LA to San Diego or LA to Las Vegas corridors USE IT. You are likely to encounter 2+ CHP patrols gunning for speeders. If you even see a KA blip its 100% guaranteed to be CHP.

V1 def way to go, however I have noticed lately on my drives from Solvang to Camarillo on the 101 a huge drop off of CHP. I think with all the layoffs lately there are not as many CHP out there anymore.
