Another Coilover Question...

Which coilovers have the softest spring rate, and most comfortable ride quality?

Not too many kits are out there yet in terms of comfort. Bilstein PSS GC Street, none of them have a kit out yet.

Everything that is out is either geared towards slamming the car or pure track and autocross performance setups.

I would say to look into getting a Single Adjustable TCK on soft settings and you could choose softer spring rates. Obviously you wouldn't need camber plates and such if you're going for comfort
The next choice would be to go with a KW V3 kit because it has linear springs and run a soft setting. KW would be best bet for comfort and ride quality with added performance if you ever need it

That is my goal, to keep ride quality and comfort with height adjustment as well as the option to have some added performance for the once in a while track day.

KW is one of the smoother coilover kits on the market. We've been running the V2s for sometime and have been happy with the compromise between performance, adjustability and comfort. It will disable the EDC system as you replace the shocks but offers you the height adjustment and individual shock adjustment.

Softest springs doesn't automatically mean a better ride. In fact, in my last car, I had coilovers with a relatively soft progressive spring and Koni based dampers and the ride wasn't all that soft. In fact, the dampers seemed like they were too soft for the springs so you'd get a lot of bouncing. I replaced those with coilovers that had much higher linear springs and those rode much better because the dampers were better matched to the springs. You have to evaluate the system as a whole and not just go by spring rates to determine which will give the best ride.

Check out the Moton Street Sports. I've driven many race/track cars with different suspensions (including KW vs. motons on my own car..e46), and motons always had the ability to smooth out the track while maintaining superior car control. Their fast damping response (what you would interpret as ride quality) has no peer. My assumption is that when targeting a street application, Moton would have the best technology and experience to provide a superior ride quality (even with stiffer springs) with superior handling. You may want to get in contact with James Clay at bimmerworld to get more info on what to expect.

I'd go with a TCK S/A kit with 400/400. Linear springs, height adjustment, Koni shocks. Best value for the $.

The ACS racing suspension has 20 position dampen and rebound settings. You can literally go from track car to daily driver in just a couple clicks.

From what I've read, you do need to get camber plates for the TCK stuff.

Just make sure you factor in the camber plates.

If you don't want camber plates and want a soft spring rate, AST coilovers can be had in custom Swift springs with various static heights and rates(300-500 front and 500-1000 rear) to suit your driving needs. Stock strut mounts can be used as well as camber plates for future upgrades.

Note: Sometimes ride quality isn't in the spring rates or dampers alone, there are other factors in a coilover system that can affect ride quality besides the two major components.

If you were out here on the West coast, I would let you drive our project 335i on all M3 control arm links and very high rate springs, nevertheless, it rides very well with good street manners.

Yes, definitely up there, but well worth it if you value track performance, while having the option for a stock-like ride. Certainly better bang for you buck than a $8K big brake kit
