Question XPipe Questions - HP & TQ Gains?

1. How much horsepower and torque do XPipes really give?

2. Is a tune necessary to deem more power?

3. Is secondary cat delete enough or is primary cat delete necessary as well?

primary cats -> fabspeed xpipe -> megan racing mufflers + tune.

More sound than power. Hardly noticeable.

15-20HP on xpipe only add another 3-5 on a axle back

deleting secondary will give you a little more maybe another 3-5 but most people use 100-200 cel secondary cat to avoid the nasty smell.

but if you want a full HP and TQ remove the primary and secondary cat and make sure to keep a resonator to avoid rasp on the exhaust.

oh i heard tuning it will give you a total of 30-35 i dont know... just reading from people's results.

I am just running 200cpi metallic cats in a riss racing pipe and the results were not just sound. There was a major bump in power even without the tune.

Gains noticeable, but without a tune your top end will be non existant!

I have zero cats and twin resonators

In general speaking:
bigger pipping + better flow = more power.
No cats = big power gain = loud
Smaller piping + better flow = more low end torque = better response
It depends what's the most important to you.

Agreed - gains are very noticeable. And it really opens up the M3 soundtrack!

The dynos I've seen show a power loss around 2500 rpm without tuning and gains everywhere else.

1 Various threads and dynos on this.

2 Tune will give more. IMHO not a must unless you are going catless.

3 2nd cat delete will give modest gains. Doubt you will feel the difference.

heh, my Akrapovic made power everywhere about 2500 rpm, and the piping is about the same as stock it's just better designed.

That's not *entirely* true - a secondary cat delete provides a very noticeable power bump.

HF cats and better flow explains that.

I can only speak for the change from adding an X-pipe and a tune at the same time (Challenge X-pipe with HFC's and ESS tune). the gains were certainly noticeable. there is a significant change in sound and a noticeable increase in power. I felt an increase in torque down low for one thing. However, a more objective measure I also noticed was how much wheelspin I would get during gear changes on the DCT and the amount of wheelspin throughout first gear.

that's torque you're feeling - xpipes are going to add torque it's the simple rules of physics

Depends on sensitivity of butt dyno

My car with a tune and Xpipe with OEM backbox gained peak HP of about 24HP, but the gains were practically across the entire RPM range. Torque increased BIG time, especially at the bottom end.
I will post a dyno graph later.

You bring up a good point - butt dyno is not 100% reliable. That's why Sosi Performance is offering a free before/after dyno session to anyone who purchases the Sosi X-Pipe before the end of the month (see sig)
