Close call...

I think every person in his lifetime will have a near death experience, maybe several. What's your close call. Share. I will start first.

This happened to me couple months ago, I worked at the port where you have a lot of terminal trucks towing 40ft container trailers. All trailers have 2 fenders - or container guides - on each side about 5ft long and sticking out of the trailer about 3ft. I was standing at the door of the hanger when a terminal truck with its trailer passed right next to me to get inside. I gave my back and started walking to get inside. In my mind, I thought that both fenders had cleared me. But what I didn't notice that the driver started taking his left and the trailer was getting real close to me and the second fender hasn't cleared me yet. All time I was clueless... the fender almost weighs about half a ton and trailer was moving fast so you could figure the rest if the fender would've hit me, either killed by the impact or would fall unconscious and the trailer wheels would handle the rest Anyways, a coworker of mine standing next to the door just pulled me away in a split second... I was HOLY SHIT!! WTF JUST HAPPENED!!!

I never thanked the guy though, I wish I had.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Me and my brother were driving down a curvy road and it had just snowed. It was all good until we hit this minor turn, then we both felt the car going sideways. I look over and I see oncoming traffic as we were drifting into the over lane, we both started screaming then we caught traction and dodged the car. Later that day we hit a Honda civic on the highway, no damage at to our x5 but the civic's trunk looked like it was punched by the hulk. Lol

Yeah those bumpers are real strong!

Not a near-death experience, but a scary one that happened to me today. I was letting the girlfriend drive my car and at a light she made a right turn but ran up to the sidewalk, realized what she had done, made a quick left back onto the road, and smashed my undercarriage on the curb....

Not cool.

The 3 that comes readily to mind:

- Crash landing in a helicopter in the Gulf of Mexico.
- Coming in too hot (fast) for a landing in a helicopter and the main rotor taking chunks from the tail.
- Staring down the wrong end of a 45 with a worthless thug holding it......

Those beat all of my stupid near death experiences I've had on motorcycles and in cars.....

I was at a state park and had on a 40 lb back pack. Filled with my camera gear. I squatted down to take a picture and slipped into a lagoon filled with melted snow water. It was March and about 35 degrees out. I thought I'd just have wet shoes until step 2 where I went in over my head.

I tried to keep my camera dry but the backpack filled with water and was pushing me down. I can't swim very well and so what with the cold, and the weight of the pack and the depth of the water I panicked. Fortunately a guy jumped in and dragged me to the spot where I could stand.

I never got his name but I thanked him profusely. I wish I had the presence of mind to take his number, but all my gear was ruined including two phones, I was freezing and I wanted to get back to civilization ASAP.

Not my finest moment.

- Died for 6 minutes when I had a fever and the hospital gave me Penisillin (turns out I am deathly allergic).

- Got T-Boned by a car going over 60 in a 25mph zone while backing out of my driveway. Sounds worse than it was; car was destroyed but I just got a bump on the head.

- Too many close calls to count while deployed in the middle east (several times), small arms fire, one IED and a close mortar but once again nothing too crazy compared to what others have gone through.

That's all, never saw any light at the end of the tunnel when I was out for those 6 minutes but it's odd knowing I was legally dead.

Mine was a near drowning too, except totally my fault. Tried to swim way further than I needed to be swimming, ended up in the middle of the lake and realized I was all outta gas. I was out there treading water trying to yell to people, finally my buddy heard me and came out and tried to get me on my back to swim me to shore, but I was already blacking out and couldn't hear him and was just thrashing around. He stayed out there even though he had just swam across the lake and back, and I was pulling him down with me. I blacked out in the water and some guy just happened to be going by on a jet ski and pulled me on and drove me back to shore. Was incredibly unpleasant to say the least and I can say drowning would be a horrible way to die.

Not to mention I'm still in debt to both of them.

This thread makes me feel very fortunate, I haven't had anything as bad as you guys.

The worst that's happened to me was about 6 years ago I was in the car with a pro driver taking a ride in a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradele when he lost control on cold tires and we hit a concrete wall head on at about 70. I walked away find but hitting a wall like that in race harnesses there is no give and it hurt bad. It hurt to breath for a few weeks, no broken bones but a bunch of bruised ribs.
