buying experience

Firs of all I am a big BMW fan and owner. But I have to say that I am very disappointed with the buying experience, service and overall interaction with the BMW dealers. That became extremely clear to me when my wife purchased a Lexus SC two years ago. The service we received starting from negotiating prices, test drives, professional atmosphere and the follow up service was unbelievable. Day and night difference for sure compared to my BMW experience. Some of the few examples that I have experienced myself at the dealer are that these guys over there drive the M cars all around including the service kids in the back. Their knowledge of the new and even the old cars is very poor and funny sometimes. The fact that it was very difficult to get a hold of anyone after you buy the car is simply unacceptable. I am wondering is it because most BMW buyers are young and middle age males that the service is so poor??? Now that I am on the list for the new M3, I am asking for help as far as what was your experience with the purchasing part and are there any recommended dealers in the Chicago land area that you may recommend. Also any tips regarding buying and negotiating will be highly appreciated.

Actually, your median BMW buyer is 40+, and that has nothing to do w/ the service. I've had GREAT service, good service, and average service during my years of ownership. It just depends on which dealer you go to, and more importantly, which individual you deal with. Your best bet is to avoid those dealerships that you've experienced less than ideal service, and take your business elsewhere. As far as buying/negotiating, now that depends on your individual buying power.

Thanks guys for your imput. I just couldn't help but notice at the dealership that they don't take you seriously immediately. I am 39 and I am driving a BMW already but until you put money down not a lot of help it there. Also just looking around in the show room you can see how crowded it is with a lot of younger men including teens surrounding new 300 models. BMWs are more sporty overall compared to other German brands. You Dont' see this as obvious at the MB dealership for example, it is more old money there if that is the right expression.

yeah your right, that dealer staff doesnt know the business rules. i know that the older guys are going to buy before the younger guys which most likely window shopping. even though im young i pay cash for my cars but at the same time i visited different dealers before i spent my money. you will see the different treatments.
