Thumbs up The ESS Install is Complete!!

Last night I picked up my e92 with the newly installed ESS VT-1 535 kit. This morning I plan to get through the break-in miles so that I can really get a feel for what this kit really adds to the car's performance. I will certainly report back my thoughts.

I want to truly thank Nate at IND for his wonderful customer service and support throughout the purchase and the install process. Also, Roman at ESS was a fantastic resource.

Finally, I must give tremendous credit to Steve and Jeff at Performance Concepts in Cedar Rapids, IA for their meticulous installation of the kit. They have an amazing facility, and they are both extremely knowledgable and detail focused. If anyone in this region is looking for a great installer, I would highly recommend them!

I have now put about a 200 miles on the VT-1 535 and my first impression is WOW!!

I have not yet explored the 7,000+ rev range, but it is still a very noticeable improvement over stock!! At the point where the stock version is running out of steam, the ESS VT-1 535 is just starting to hit its stride. This is a very impressive improvement, and I have not yet really seen what it can do when pushed. In another hundred miles or so, I plan to truly test the limits, and I will report back my findings.

Already, I would give this kit a "Highly Recommend"!!

I have now tested the full range of this new enhancement to my e92 M3.

As others have stated, it seems just like stock until to get it above about 4,500 RPMs. From there, it feels like you have a whole new level of power! I think it gives a reasonable pickup in the 0-60 MPH range, but there is no doubt that the big gain is in the 60 to 130 range! The thing pulls like a freight train and just keeps going all the way to the red line!

I can see that I will be looking for maximum traction in my next set of tires, but once you are beyond third gear this is not an issue. I do notice that up-shift rev matching is not as pronounced in M mode with this kit, but I am assuming that is just part of a necessary adjustment to the new ECU mapping.

Overall, I am thrilled with my decision, and I only wish I could find more opportunitites to really test what this beast can do!

I think what you're noticing is the decrease in power on fast shifts. since the ECU doesn't control the DCT, unless you get the DCT software that ESS offers, they program your ECU to have slightly reduced power for a fraction of a second when you're shifting hard. they do this to eliminate any additional wear that the increased power would have on the clutches on hard shifts. it's just another example of the significant amount of research that went into this kit.

enjoy it and be safe.
