Oil filter change

What do you all think about just replacing the filter when doing an in between change at 7500 miles. Ive never done this but imagine its practical considering access of filter on top of engine...

Yes, completely. Synthetic oil is very durable so changing at least the filter will help keep it cleaner until the recommended 15K mile oil change. If you follow just the recommended oil change at 15k, I don't see how changing the filter could be any worse.

I get where the OP is coming from with this..but its not particulates clogging the filter that you need to worry about its the oil additives in the oil breaking down..

Oil and filter together as a rule

Is not so much that the oil is durable, but you are moving all the dirt and contaminants through the engine with the oil. No matter how many times you change the filter.

Changing the filter is a lot easier than doing the oil change. I have done both together every time. Good practice and no gunk to mix with ...

well i guess i see your point. I know Synthetic oil is durable but 15k is just way too much.. and thats coming from all the mechanics i know. My dad was a mechanic for 25 years and i sure dont follow the recommended oil change at 15k. Since day one i have been doing my oil change takes 30 minutes and cost 130 every 15k half is dealer and half i pay and DIY.

If you are thinking of keeping the car i highly suggest to change both...

Oil is cheap insurance. I would do every 7500 or less.

I change my oil every 5K miles, and I always use BMW oil & filter, for $80 you'll get a filter and 7 qts of oil. Let me tell you something, my oil is almost pitch black @ 5K miles. I don't care what BMW tells you, 15K miles between oil changes is another way to deposit dirty particles inside your engine, not healthy for the long run. BMW also says their differential & tranny fluids, and coolant are "Lifetime". Any REAL mechanic will laugh at that fact. It's your call pal..!! Or you can also do 7.5K like a lot of folks here!! But don't waste your time and money on just changing the filter.
