Got my 1200 service done and i am pissed
Today, I took my car in for the 1200 mile service. I dropped it off around 9am and they finished around 11:30am. I picked it up around 4pm. I told them not to wash my car but somehow they still washed it, and what made it worst is they made swirl mark all over my car (Alpine white) and there were many black oily dots showing on the rear bumper, trunk and fender area..... I don't get how those black oil dots got all over my car after the car wash....
They also drove the car for 6 miles, I guess most dealer do it after oil change? I'll let this one slide. Here are the two worst thing happened today: 1). They made fat scratch marks on my hood, I notice it after i got home but it was too late to bring it back. So i used clay bar and tried to take out much scratch as possible, and it works ok. you still can see few tiny brown scratch... 2). I got my arkym lip installed two weeks ago and i covered it with clear bra. I been driving super careful for the past few weeks, there are no damage to the lip or the clear bar. But when i picked up my car today, i saw pieces of clear bra hanging loose on the bottom of the lip. It was obvious they scraped the car pretty bad, and i told them to either fix it or replace it. But they told me it's not their fault because the lip was too low and they are making up whole bunch bull shit excuses.... So i am not happy with my first 1200 mile service.... What you guys think i should do? bring it back and argue more or just eat it and try to fix it myself??? Also can i push the car harder after the 1200 miles service? Can i give it full throttle and push it to red line? The service guy told me i can do whatever i want now after the first service, but i don't really trust him. Opinions?!?! |

My car is not lowered, it only has competition package but it still seems high. I was able to drive the car with out any scrape or scratch for the past two weeks, and the dealer able to damage my car within the first 3 hours.... |

Take pictures and document everything, make your demands to your dealer, and threaten to take the issue to BMW NA.
About the lip.. if they specifically said the lip was "too low," and then got in the driver's seat and drove it anyway, b*tch slap the clown behind the service desk. Sandy Sansing in Pensacola has always treated their repeat buyers like kings, and if anything like this EVER happened I'd watch them bag an employ quick like. What likely happened was the "car washing guy" from the shop hopped in the seat and drove it around to get it serviced and either on the way there or whenever they added 6 more miles to your odometer he punished your lip. Then, he or a comrade in arms decided to wash your car after the express order was given not to. Sounds like we have suspect #1 to bag. Go to BMW NA if these guys don't meet your satisfaction; but keep in mind not to let this shed bad light on all BMW dealerships, most keep a high standard of service. And those who don't need to be identified and weeded out. |

Wow, I would be extremely pissed if I were you. Sorry this happened to your new car.
Those black marks are from the sponge they used to wash the car with. The sponge that they use gets used on every car they wash, over and over again. Dropped on the ground, etc. So this black sticky stuff if most likely from the sponge. This happened to me with my Lexus. I told them not to wash the car and they did.

they mess up your car... that's the reason. I got my first wash from them, and it got all swirl marks, water spots, and those fu**ing black oil dots all over the car. My car was cleaner before they did the car wash...

Damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear about the bad experience.
Trust me, we've all had horrible dealership experiences... Not to mention valet drivers! I feel your pain as I'm sure many of us do as well. |

I take pics of the odometer, and let them know I did, and that if they need to drive it beyond taking it back to the shop, they are more than happy to ride along, but that I want to be the one doing the driving.
I've not had any issues.

I just had my 1200 service done yesterday. I was very pleased with the dealership, then again I am in Germany. The Service manager came out and looked at my car and said they would not wash the car. He said they normally wash cars, but he would not want to since the car was clean and in very good condition. I was impressed becuase I was just about to ask him to make sure they didnt wash my car. Also, they drove my car just one mile after the service.
Not looking forward to putting up with the crap back in the states. |

At least swirl marks can be worked out. I brought mine into Haberstad here in NY and got it back with 2 huge vertical scatches in the center of my door.
I said something about it to the SA, whose back was facing me at the time. When he turned around I saw that he was wearing a big shit-kicker belt buckle. I said to myself, "BINGO." This dick must have left his clipboard or dildo or something on my passenger seat and reached through the window to get it. Of course he denied it. I would go into shock if one of these dealer assholes ever owned up to anything.

most of them dont use property washing supplies and it gives swirl marks or even scratches. most people are anal specially myself, usually my car is clean flawless when i go for service and when they wash it they dont wipe it fully streaks of water or water spots are very visible... so NO WASH FOR ME AS WELL...

that sucks man I would be pissed too.
This is why I did my homework first and took my M to a dealer that other enthusiasts recommended. I also waited there and watched them do the service and told them not to wash/drive the car after the the oil change. I highly doubt the stealership will fix your lip for you. Just learn from it, its shitty but not the end of the world. |

This is why you don't give your car to the dealer if you care about such things, unless you know they will give you the type of service you expect.
Either: 1. find someone else who will do your services the way you want 2. learn to do it yourself, 3. or lower your expectations! '3.' is hardest, but if you can't do '1.' or '2.' then you don't really have a choice, do you? Suing and "demanding" better service is not going to work, if they were such 'quality' people then they wouldn't be doing what they did to your car! Bit once, avoid forever, or you're just asking for trouble. |

Sorry to hear about this man, that sucks. Good to know about Encinitas BMW though... I'm moving that way soon and will be looking for an alternative dealership as I'm sure they'll smash my bumper to pieces, and then proceed to jack up my paint

I don't let them wash my car either. The dealership washed my Blue 535 and it looked like the dried it with sandpaper. Never ever again. As for as driving it after the oil change I take my wifes Honda for an oil change and there is no test drive required. Has anyone gone to get an oil change from a Jiffy lube or something and had them do a test drive? There is no reason for a test drive after changing fluids other than the fact that the tech wants to drive around in an M (go buy one). In fact on this car if there is any services done that I am not waiting for I will instruct them no test drives without me present (plain and simple) I will inform them that I have taken the mileage ahead of time. They can check the fluid level with car running and stationary.
As for the black spots that is most likely from over application of wheel dressing on the tires. That crap will spray up once moving and end up all over the car. Sometimes you just have to be a bit of a dink. Nobody cares for your car better than you. We all paid good money for these and they should be treated a certain way. I don't get why BMW NA doesn't address what is clearly a systemic problem with service depts and there ability to follow simple instructions. If you are goig to offer a car wash then use proper care. Not all places are bad there was one place in NY that I went to that used a power sprayer, and then when drying the car used a squeegee type product to dry it and there were no swilrs they took the similar pride in the car as you would. Other dealers not so much.
