So I was eating lunch today...
...in front of the Monte Carlo casino today and saw every type of rare mark you can imagine... Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, GT-R, Aston-Martin, etc.
This got me thinking... these are all AWESOME cars in their own right and I would love to have the privilege to ride passenger in one, let alone drive one. This is especially true for a F car or an A-M. But, I just don't LOVE any of these marks as much as i love M cars (real M cars, 1M included) or P-cars. Whenever i see E9x/E46 M3's, i stare until no end. Whenever i see any type of 911 (993, 991, 997, etc), i could stare all day at those beauties. I'm probably one of the few people that would take a Porsche GT3 over any sort of F car, 9 times out of 10. Don't know if anyone would agree with me, but i just have a sweet spot for M cars and 911s. P.S., I'm on vacation and was just in London a week prior, another car lovers Mecca. London in the high-end Kensington/Knightsbridge/Chelsea/Notting Hill neighborhoods has the largest amount of big money cars i have seen. Much greater than any US city that i have been to (Beverly Hills included).

There is something about the everyday usability of Porsche and M cars that is so awesome. They aren't just some dainty super cars to gawk at. You can drive them all day.

Nah. First supercar I'll buy will be a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. Then I'd choose Ferrari's, AMs, and the rest. I would maybe look at an M3 or Porsche for a few seconds if there was an exotic right next to it which would garner my entire attention. I see some guy DD his 997.2 GT3 everyday and I gawk at it, but I would probably turn the car around if it was a Ferrari/Lamborghini, lol.

Sounds like a nice little trip, though I'm sure the women in Monaco provide an equally nice view.
I've always wanted an AM, I will never have one but that is the pinnacle for me.

Sell your oil rig, lease it back from buyer, then use the funds to buy AMs. By the time funds dry up and you can't cover the lease payments, you'll likely be dead and your estate will be burdened with your debt. But hey, you can drive an AM for a bit! |

I here the OP on this one. Kinda like the difference between a tall skinny NY city exotic model compared to your healthy all American girl homecoming queen.
Both beautiful but what would be more fun on a daily basis. That said the Ferrari F40 and the V8 AM Vantage do blow me away. |

It's very hard for normal people to understand the value of owning any supercar. I suspect that we will never get it until we become rich too.
Normal people only have the fantasy of what it would be like to be rich. But sooner-or-later we must get back to our real world concerns like kids, what's for dinner, paying the mortgage or rent, paying college bills etc. So as much as we like to think we know, we really don't know and won't have a clue to know why Kobe Bryant owns 10 Lambos, 3 Rolls, a few other high-end cars along with his 20 million home and fine ass wife. The only common place for all of GOD's children is death. I can live that! |

Those are great car watching spots. I'm always amazed at the cars you see in London and at the fact that because there is so little garage space in the city, most of these exotics are parked out on the streets. I think a lot of big cities (e.g., NYC, Tokyo, etc...) have a lot of nice cars but they are tucked away underground 99% of the time. In London you SEE them.
On your other point, I think opinions/emotions can change. I'm a big BMW/Porsche guy (have an M3 and three 911s at the moment) but I'm toying with the notion of trading in one of the 911s on an AM V8V to try something different and because I think they look gorgeous. Haven't quite decided yet, but it's either going to be a 997.2 GT3(RS?) or a 2010-11 V8V. That said, I don't think I could ever be Porsche-less. |

Exotics (Lambos, Ferraris, AMs and McLarens) are cool to look at and dream about (although older Ferraris aren't that expensive to acquire - just expensive to keep!).
Having said that, as much as I love my M and the Porsches, they are somewhat common and I think our mentality is such that we might gravitate towards that which we can reasonable acquire because having a Lambo in our garage just wouldn't look right. Remember, the rich think differently from you and me. I had an opportunity to ride shotgun for a 20 minute session at Mosport yesterday in a McLaren MP4-12C and I can tell you that it was a really special experience. Just as a reference, the driver (who is one of the nicest guys I've ever met) lives in an 18,000 sq ft home with an 8 car garage (in which reside 5 cars including his wife's MP4-12C Spyder). He's also on the list for a P1.
