ZCP wheels & Dinan Stage 1 suspension - advice please...

Haven't posted in a while but have been lurking on the forum daily as usual... would appreciate any input anyone has on this..

Have had my 08 E92 M3 for 3 years and looking for a change for the summer (other than buying a new ZCP E92!) thinking about installing Competition wheels on my 08 and maybe Dinan suspension...

Q1) Turner Motorsports seems to have the set of 4 ZCP wheels for $2,000 - much cheaper than locally. Any reason not to order from Turner? they say they're OEM wheels...

Q2) as far as I can tell from searching, the ZCP wheels are a straight swap onto my car for my existing OEM 19s - same bolts, and I can swap my PS2s front 245/35ZR19 and rear 265/35ZR19 right onto the ZCP wheels... ZCP wheels are the same size but (sorry for the dumb question) they have a different offset right? so wheels sit out a little further?

Q3) I haven't asked my dealer but assume they could install the ZCP suspension component(s) to replicate the 10mm drop, but thinking a Dinan Stage 1 setup may do the same thing (approx 12mm) and may be cheaper. Dinan says their setup works with EDC on my car. I had Budds install the Dinan exhaust last year so would prob do same thing for suspension for peace of mind although know I'm paying too much for it

Any input welcome / appreciated!

Hey mister. Turner has a great reputation so I wouldn't worry.

The ZCP wheels are wider than your stock 220M's....front is 19x9 and rear is 19x10 (versus yours which are 19x8.5 and 19x9.5 but BMW equips the same size tires to either set of wheels so absolutely no worries about the ZCP wheel/tire combo....it's OEM including the bolts.

Send a PM to aajami to ask him about the comp. suspension install. He had it done using factory components. He's in Cali but can probably help you guesstimate costs.

And go speak with Ted (Parts Mgr & Budds Performance ambassador) at Budd's about cost for parts and install. Quite frankly, with me, they've been fantastic about their pricing and service. Towards the end of the month my car will be in the shop for a couple of days getting a few mods that I swore I'd never get.

Hope that helps....Mark

Q1 and Q2 have been answered above. However, I'd consider running 255/275 instead of the OEM 245/265. I think BMW chose to stick with the same sizes only for cost/inventory reasons. IMO, the 245/265 looks undersized on the 359s. Don't forget to check out the FS section... I've seen some people trying unloading ZCP wheels in mint condition. And Tischer has them too, in silver and black.

Q3... aajami looks to be the only one thus far who has retrofitted the ZCP suspension. Looks like he went through quite a bit of leg work to get it done properly.

I've also opted for a Dinan Stage 1. 20% off sale ended last week (Sorry to even mention that). Many people around here, with and without EDC, have been very happy with the subtle Dinan drop and close-to-OEM ride quality. I'm having it installed at an independent Dinan shop when my winter setup comes off at the end of this month.

Just out of curiosity, what are you going to do with 2 E92s?

FYI - Dinan after install costs as much as ZCP, plus if you want something other than the OEM 18s you will pay extra for wheels. At least in the USA. I just went through this same thing when ordering my new car.

What I am curious though, is if I can add a Dinan drop to ZCP and come out slightly lower than just Dinan alone? I'd like to be just lower than what both offer yet still have good ride quality and handling.

J08M3, just so you know, ZCP (or 7MA as it's labelled in Canada) is a ~$5500 special order option, not ~$2200 as per the US pricing. Sucks for us.

It does include the 19" 359 wheels,& EDC so the cost is only $1185 more according to my invoice.Still avery good deal.

Thanks for the advice all. Too bad I missed the Dinan sale... Agree on Budds - have dealt with Ted and Brett on the Dinan exhaust and software in the past - did a good job

Btw Chowster, no I'm not buying a 2nd E92...am thinking of adding installing the ZCP wheels etc on my existing E92!

Ha...sorry, misinterpreted the wording in post 1!

I'd be interested in hearing any comments you have on the Dinan software too. Did you do this to go with your Dinan exhaust, or did you have specific needs/wants for remapping with Dinan?

Are you planning on tracking the car? If so, I would pass on the Dinan Stage 1 suspension.

Dinan says the software is set up to go with the exhaust (and can be set up to optimize the other parts like the air filter etc). They say it adds a few hp. The main reason I got it though is it smooths out the throttle response IMO - I tend to drive the the car on Sport or Sport Plus most of the time but I found those settings too sensitive for daily driving before I put the Dinan software on

Yes - I try to get out a handful of times a year. Interesting...why would you pass on the Dinan suspension for track use?

My lap times believe it or not were faster on the OEM suspension with an aggressive alignment then on the Dinan set up.
