Production Status Question

Hi -

I ordered my car a week ago and got a production number within hours. I have been checking the order tracking website/hotline and I hear that "production is scheduled with no confirmed production date". How long does it typically take before a production date is confirmed?

Thanks - The wait is already killing me.

Been there, brother, been there (I just took delivery last Thursday). All I can tell you is that it is worth the wait. When I ordered mine, the dealer was able to go into their alottment and find a car at 150 (I think 155 is the break point where a car's features can't be changed). 150 means the car is in production, but early enough on that they can add/delete options previously slated in the alottment. I guess this is common. Anyway, from that point, January 19th, it was almost exactly 60 days to my eagerly awaiting hands. Keep in mind that it came via port in CA for delivery to CO (through Panama Canal, etc.), so you should be shorter.

You will find that it will start moving very quickly through production and then you will get frustrated all over again as it sits at the port in queue waiting for a cargo ship for export.

Again, all I can say is EVERYONE on here has had that same killer wait, and it is worth it. Hang in there, you're getting a premier ride.

Do you think the average time it take from the day that it was ordered to the day it was delivered for most people here would be 2-3 months?

Hi AMPowerJ. Can you give me the number for that hotline? And you are tracking with the BMW site right? I just ordered my M3 on Mon (3.23.09). Looking forward to hearing the same message.

For me it took 2 days for the production date to be confirmed.
The only thing I can say is try again and try more !! I'm in the same situation but mine is getting on the ship tomorrow (I hope)
One month since I ordered the car, another month to go...

What does the BMW USA owner site says ? "in production" or something else?

BMW site still says "On Order". I'm guessing another week or 2 before its in production.

I ordered on 3/14 (a Saturday), and am still getting the "production is scheduled with no confirmed production date" as well. So... at least 2 weeks and counting to get a production date. I think I'm only a couple days ahead of the OP, depending on the vagaries of different dealership ordering practices and how BMW prioritizes orders.

For those of you that ordered right about the time I did I just called BMW and they said my production is slated for the 15th week which is the week after Easter. 4/13 - 4/17.

The dealer told me yesterday that the car had just flipped over to production. Apparently I got the alarm added just in time! The phone message didn't change until this morning, with "estimated completion date of April 7th."

Website hasn't changed status yet, but from others feedback that's expected to lag a day or three.

So in my case, it took 17 days to go from "On Order" to "Production" status.

Thanks Snow and AMP....really good info. Nice to have others who ordered around the same time.

I gotta go bug my CA today. See if I can get an answer from her.

Just heard from my CA that production started today with completion by 4/9!!!

So it took 14 days from order to production start. Not bad at all.

Phone msg as of this morning:

"Your vehicle is in the body shop, with an estimated completion date of... April 7th, 2009"

If the car has problems down the road, I'll blame it on the weekend assembly shift!
