First impressions: BMW electronic steering wheel

Bought myself one as a Xmas gift. So far I love this thing!

1. I thought I would miss the tricolor stitching, but since my interior is all black it looks ok. Thinking about more white stitching on seats or shift boot.

2. Shift lights are a hoot. I am 6MT so the shift lights are a nice addition. And I can always turn em off.

3. I had the version 1 wheel and this wheel has way more functions, and the display is much cleaner and clearer than the previous version.

4. I already liked the Alcantara leather. Although it does seem to pick up dust and lint pretty readily. I am open to long term care suggestions.

5. The flat bottom took some getting used to but it is cool looking and sporty.

6. It has an auto turn off feature which is adjustable where the display goes off but shift lights still operate which I don't remember the v1 having

7. The G force meter is also a cool thing. I have hit .98 G so far. What is a high G force value?

Overall I would recommend this if your thinking about it. It is a bit pricey but a nice interior upgrade IMHO. I had BMW do the install so I got the 4 year warranty on the wheel.

i have always been on the edge about getting this. i love the new features it comes with but for some reason liked how the V1 had some leather on it instead of all alcantra. But it still looks great hope you enjoy man.

Brand new installed from the dealer? That's actually not a bad price.

Kind of thinking about it, but hesitant because of the lack of tri-color stitching & i have fox red interior. Hmmm

POST PEEKS!!! Sounds awesome! You should also post a quick video of the shift lights when approaching redline for us MT drivers. I would like to have these to keep the car fun and impress the ladies

I read that the install is fairly simply for the OEM Performance wheel. I'm assuming the electronic components in this wheel are a totally different story.

$1400 doesn't sound outrageous.

I just finished taking my V2 off of my e82 and putting it into my M this past weekend. DIY wasn't too bad, but I need to get my steering angle sensor re-calibrated since my install threw it off.

I just installed my V2 this weekend using Doba's DIY. Overall the install took about 1.5 hours, slightly involved but still what I would consider easy.

At first I wasnt a fan of the alcantara, but after having it and driving with it, it feels and looks better in person.

Overall I'm loving the wheel!

For part + install for $1400 isn't that bad, still a bit much and would motivate me to do it myself...but might take me all day to do it.
By having BMW do the install I have a 4 year warranty on the wheel.

Now that's a nice perk.

Is there a history of these wheels malfunctioning?

I would assume an hour or hour and a half install cost. Which makes the wheel cost around 1150-1200. Not bad at all including a warranty.
