4" of extra break pedal travel after 3 laps! He couldn't stop at the end because his pedal was on the floor!

And I have to believe him--well, not too literally--since he owns the white M3 he drove!

He said his M3 tires were worn. I wonder if he was using the stock PS2's?
The two other cars had super sticky rubber, the Cups and Bridgestones.

Would like to see it redone with better PS2's, much less Cup's.
M3 would still lose but the margin shouldn't be as wide.

Did anyone notice the comment about the brakes, 2 laps and at the end of the second lap there was no brakes.

Now who here is that concerned with the hope that the DCT will make this a wonderful track car when the F___ing thing has no brakes. Guys I told you that BMW doesn't know how to do brakes and here is a perfect example of this. Plus for track use 50/50 weight balance or should I say 51.5/48.5 balance is no use for track work, you can't get the traction out of the corners that is required.

M3 is a great car but no trackday star, that is for sure.

Yes, GT3 and GT-R are focused cars. M3 is all-rounder.

The M3 was on PS2s and the wear would only really be a problem if they are below the minimum legal limit as it's only after this point where grip starts to decrease.

Guys there is no need to make excuses, the M3 is a great road car, it's just no use for serious track work, especially in this impressive company.

Their was no excuse given. I simply repeated what he said from the video.

Of course the M3 isn't as quick as the GT-R or the GT3, but he didn't even come close to what the M3 can do. 5.2 to 60? Come on! I can't help but wonder if it being his personal car had any impact.

I'm meaning there is nothing wrong with coming third, especially among such amazing machinery, to highlight what he said is to agree with what he is saying and the facts are the M3 isn't a capable track car compared to other more suited vehicle currently on sale for similar money, but as you have already said, the M3 is more an all-rounder that just happens to be fun on the track as well.

Sorry if you felt this was a dig at you.

Yes, note that he did not dump the clutch in the M3, but he did in the GT3.

I'd like to see the M3 with DCT pull a sub 4 second 0-60 and show him right.

It was nothing to do with the fact it was his own car, the problem is less weight over the rear tyres so you are having to try and manage wheel spin in the first two gears, it's an art.

Where as with the GTR you have DSG and more importantly awd which will shift the power to the wheels best suited at the time. As he said, it will do those figures every time.

There is no doubt if the M3 had CUP+ tyres it's lap and acceleration times would have both improved, but who really cares that the M3 didn't perform as expected, I for one haven't chosen it on pure performance figures.

It's all down to traction and the rubber in question, the GT3 has 60% of it's weight over the rear tyres and the rubber is CUP with a width of 305. The M3 has only 48.5% of it's weight over the rear with less grippy rubber that 1.6 inches narrower.

He did the best with what was available.

he is like a second away from the m3's actual 0-60. shouldn't M dynamic mode be used instead of switching off the DSC?

I don't think so. There was absolutely no wheel spin in his 1st gear launch as far as I could tell, so he did not seem to push any kind of limit there. You clearly don't want lots of it, but don't tell me that's the fastest way to get a car going? Have you seen how the GTR or the M6 takes off when in launch control mode (can't see it in this video)?

Watch a GTR launch here:

And a M6 here:

And, by your weight distribution figures, the GT3 has only about ~100lbs more weight on the rear tires as its overall weight is considerably less. The tires are an obvious factor.

Not quite a fair test. The GT3 is near double the price of the M and wieghs about 500 LBS less, thus better power-wieght ratio. The GTR has AWD, automatic gear box and two turbos more than the M3 has got. I like the GTR but it doesnt excite me, it doesnt sound off well either.

I think it is clear he did not push the M3 at all to its limit. Since the other 2 cars were on loan, easy to dump the clutch and push it balls to the wall. Maybe it is just me, but
(1) did that 0-60 launch seem half-assed in the m3- no 4k rpm launch like the GT3, no powershifting. Maybe he should take lessons from the car and driver guy that posted 4.1 and well under 10 to 100!!!
(2) the M3 sounded the best of all. Was music to my ears.
