Wow. Old thread.
But anyways: I've been very happy with my Lux Angel Eyes H8 5000K direct swap upgrade on my 2009 E92. The light output is very good/comparable with current (2013) production BMW 3 series cars. I chose 5000K and am glad I did. Expensive at $245 a pair but they work as advertised. By the way, whoever said it was a PITA to swap the bulbs, was not kidding.
