After 4 years of running on the old MPSS, I put a set of new MPS4S on yesterday and went for a 100 mile blast.

They feel bloody awful, particularly the rear, which feels wallowly, I actually thought there was something wrong with the suspension!

32psi all around.

Anybody reporting the same feeling?

After negative reports about these tyres on the GTR (mid corner bouncing) I opted for Dunlops RF's on that car, but I thought they would be superb on the M3. Really disappointed compared to the MPSS.

New tires have grease/oil from the factory that helped them come off the production mold easier. I think they get better as you break them in more. Give them a few hundred miles more.

Is 32psi a bit low? I thought the recommended pressure is around 35F/38R?

I have put 2000 miles on my ps4s. And to me they are great. Amazing grip.

I can understand a bit of slippage on very smooth pavement for a mile or two, but the mold release used is in microns and is no match for the rough grip that concrete on the road offers.

You said "Wallowly" that sounds more like a tire compound problem, than a thin film problem. See if the tire shop can check the hardness (durometer) of the tire....although I really doubt a tire would leave the factory with this very fundamental flaw.

Check everything! Suspension ties, hub bolts, etc..

Well it seems as though I was too quick to criticize in my OP!

I have since put another 200 miles on these tyres and increased the pressures to 33psi F & 35psi R and they are much better than the first ride.

I still feel they have a softer sidewall than the MPSS as I'm sure I am getting more "roll" but compared to the first 100 miles it's a massive improvement and they were actually pretty enjoyable.

Lesson Learned:
Keep the fingers away from the keyboard until you know what you're talking about. Lol

I notice “mid corner bouncing” when hitting the corners at a high speeds. I too thought I had a suspension problem. I was actually considering replacing the rear dampeners thinking this was the problem. Anyone else have this problem with the PS4S?

Glad that it worked out OK! I just put a new set of the Pilot A/S 3+ and wow am I impressed. The fact that the current weather in Dallas is a chilly 22 degrees, I’m glad I have these on

Your old PSS had lost a lot of their grip due to age so the new PS4S have much higher grip. The higher grip will change how your car corners - increased roll is one thing you'll feel.

Also, if the old PSS were worn down to the wear bars then you might also feel a little bit of tread squirm with the new PS4S. The tread blocks on the PS4S are tall compared to the worn tread blocks on the PSS - tall tread blocks will deflect more laterally than short tread blocks.

Michelins tend to have a really hard compound for maximum treadwear longetivity. You have to get some heat into it before grip kicks in. I tend to prefer Potenza RE-71R/Dunlop Starspec II/Proxes for this reason.

Those are not the OEM inflation requirements, that's why the tires feel shitty.

There's a sticker on the driver's doorjamb with the proper inflation numbers.

I've always wondered...do the recommended pressures remain the same even when increasing tire width? What about changing diameter? I have 35psi front and 36psi rear currently for 245/35/19 and 265/35/19. I'm mounting these same tires in 255/35/19 and 275/35/19 tomorrow.

I went from MPSS to MPS4S on my 600tq M4 and the difference was night and day. But in the exact the opposite direction of what you're saying. Traction and ride were both greatly improved and the good turn in of the M4 was even better.

As long as you aren't making huge changes in tire size, you'll be fine with OEM inflation numbers. I used the OEM numbers even when I went to 255/275.

I think you are spot on with this.

Tyre squirm on new tyres compared to old, well worn tyres never occurred to me.

Conti ExtremeContact Sports 265/285 19". no regrets. Never a Conti fan until this new tire came out this year.
