2008 or 2009 M3?

Can someone pls tell me the diffrence between a 2008 M3 and a 2009 M3 either than the obvious year model?

Could it be that the 2009 M3 is the facelifted version of the coupe?

no difference b/w 2008 and 2009 M3 b/c new E92 M3 isn't even out yet. 2008 will be 6-speed manual only and 2009 will have both 6-speed and DSG-type transmission.

In www.edmunds.com they have a page on 2008 M3 and the 2009 M3.

I think this is because the 2009 model is based on the facelifted coupe.

They're just referring to the release of the sedan the year after the coupe. Therefore, coupe 2008 model, sedan 2009 model. why they separated the two is beyond me...

i believe when the M3 comes out it will have a option of either manual or SMG, the DSG might be out in the future much like how the SMG was introduced to the later year E46s. The new M3s wouldnt only come out in manuals...BMW will keep everyone satisfied to their driving preferences.

i thought it has already been settled that in the US, the DSG will likely be available shortly after or at the same time as the general release in spring 2008? I haven't heard anyone mention SMG and then DSG later...

I heard some stuff about a "SMG-III" , well with all of the "rumors" and stuff going around its hard to say whats going to be available right when the M comes out, hopefully they will have some different tranny options available.

BMW's press release indicated the car will only be released in MT form initially. There has been no discussion about SMG in any official release that I have seen. The automotive press and thier sources at BMW do seem to mention a new DSG type tranny though.

And, historically, M cars do not get a "face lift". There are minor changes (like the LED tail lights issued in 2004) but no change in design.

Yup...
They are putting a lot of development time into this new tranny and it should be available fairly soon after the launch. Early production slots, so far at least, are expected to be just MT. That could quickly change though...
