Then get rid of your overpriced 2008 E90 M3 and buy a Camaro. Win win for everybody.

To be honest I very likely will do that. All that crap about the rod bearings wearing out and grenading the engines has me worried, especially since my car is out of warranty. Damn you BMW

I'm in the exact opposite camp. I like all of those cars too, but would never take a GT3 over the rest knowing that I could have bought myself another car with the price savings of a GTR or Vette over the GT3. Porsche pricing is

go buy your vette and then count how many you see in a week or so on the street... that same week count how many gt3's you will see. A big reason people buy those cars is for exclusivity. They want their car to stand out more. Kind of like how we decided to buy the M3 and not the 335is and throw a jb4 on it(which would have saved a lot of money).

I guess it depends on where you live. Here in Toronto an M3 is nothing special at all. They're all over the place. I see them pretty much every day.

If I am not mistaken there have been about 755 997 GT3 imported into the US, when you add RS versions, there have been a little less than 1200, if you also include '04-05 versions, the total GT3 variants imported into US is less than 2400; I may be off a little.
A fully loaded 996 GT3 used to cost less than $90K, there weren't that many options. Today a high mileage one still sells above $45K, a nice example will bring $55K easy, and a collectors version will probably fetch about $65-70K. A 997.1 GT3 today would sell pretty easily for $70-75K and RS around $85-90K. These were made in 2007-08. 2010-11 997.2 GT3 still sells between $90 and 105, RS between $125-150K, and the RS 4.0 fetches between $250-310K (list price was $180K). So, all generations of the GT3 owners almost never lost money on their cars thus far or worst case the ownership costs of a GT3 is generally less than $300-500/month if you only hold it for 3-5 years, if you can hold it longer you might even make money. There aren't many cars out there that have similar numbers, including Ferrari, certainly not BMW or Nissan, etc. And it is probably a safer bet to assume that most of the owners (each GT3 having at least 2 owners on avg.) are not dumb to not understand the 'value equation', there are good reasons economically, besides technical and driving feel, to enjoy these cars. The very last owner will come out best financially |

Devo, can you post pics of the 991 GT3 when she comes in? I'm interested in one. Dealers here don't have any allocations.
What options did you get? |

i kind of like how the S65 only has one main problem. thats says somthing. BMWs are really not for everyone. i wont WANT one out of warranty. if i couldnt afford to have one like i do, i would get a mustang or 370z. |

Damn. I have to do some research on these "rod bearings" that people are talking about. My M3 just went out of warranty 2 weeks ago (bought it new 4 years ago). The good thing is that I've got really low miles.

I like how you minimize the S65's issue as being "one" problem, but that one problem is enough to completely destroy the engine and leave you with a $25000 repair bill. I'd much rather deal with numerous minor issues that are cheap and easy to fix, than one serious problem that doesn't have an easy solution and that can lead to catastrophic engine failure. It's probably a good idea to switch to a thinner oil like5w 40 or 0w40 instead of that TWS molasses that BMW used to recommend. Some people believe thinner oil will improve oil flow and reduce bearing wear. And try to get an extended warranty if you can, even if it just covers the powertrain. |

i found an allocation at a local dealership. they have 5 buyers on the waiting list, 1-2 car allocations for spring 2014 delivery and whoever pays them the 10k premium OVER MSRP will be guaranteed the car. willing to do msrp but not sure if premium worth it. 1st year depreciation will kill me esp by paying this premium

SpeedAddictM3 has given me a new option. I never really considered Vette's, but now I'm starting to think, and just looking at my local track days, the Vettes are insanely fast. |
