M3 on the way....

My 2009 M3 with DCT is on the way....I hope I made the right choice....after reading about all the problems with DCT lag.... what I can't figure out is if there is a way to modify driving style to compensate for it like some people did with the E46 SMG's. Anyone out there love their DCT? I know Car and Driver only had good things to say about it when they raced against a 997...

I love my DCT! I was quite suprised the first time I drove it in the S6 mode (it was just this past weekend and I've had the car since November of last year, sad!) and it chirped the tires on the 1-2 shift.

I don't track my car so I have never experienced the lag issue.

The lag has nothing to do with driving on the track.

OP, you can mostly avoid the lag if you downshift to first gear yourself rather than letting the car do it (or actually not do it, as the case is with the lag).

Oh, and yes, I love my car - M-DCT rocks.

So, all this fuss about the M-DCT is when used in the "auto" mode? I was thinking this tranny was more in line with the F1 style used in the Ferrari's, fast, smooth, operator controlled shifting. I guess I will see what happens when it gets here..... hope it won't haunt me too....

Hey some cars are lag free it would seem, so it is not universal (but unknown really if all could develop symptoms).

Also, the lag as described happens in the low speed auto downshift sequence which can happen in auto or manual as long as when in manual you allow the auto shift sequence to happen.

Fortunately I have no lag too. The only problem was it not being able to downshift under very heavy braking. This was solved with the progman 32.1 upload. I love this tranny. As quick and smooth as a GTR but 'touch wood' without the hardware problems.
