DCT Servicing
Anyone had their DCT transmission serviced? It used to be part of the 1200 mile servicing but was discontinued. I know Mike Miller (Roundel Tech Talk) recommends changing the fluid at 1200 and every 30K thereafter. Cost at the dealer is pretty steep. Anyone had it done and would you mind sharing the cost and the experience? Thanks.

This is absolutely false. The DCT was never serviced at 1200 miles, only the manual transmission fluid on 6MT cars. BMW says the DCT fluid is a lifetime fill and never needs to be changed.
I've heard it is expensive fluid and requires dealership tools to change the fluid properly since you need to tell the DCT to turn on the pump to drain the fluid completely. |

This is right out of Mike Miller's Lifetime Maintenance Schedule. "M Double Clutch Gearbox: every 30,000 miles if you can get the oil BMW is trying “lifetime fill” with the optional M Double Clutch Gearbox on the E90-family M3, and this gearbox requires a special lubricant: BMW DCTF-1 Pentosin. As per always, I recommend changing it at 1,200 miles and every 30,000." How do you like your X1? I think BMW did a very nice job on that model. Right size and shape.

X1 is great if that's the size and style you're looking for. It's my wife's daily, she loves it, and I enjoy driving it when I do on occasion. Seeing our less than stellar gas mileage though, I would have gone with the 35i. The 28i is a more crisp drive and it's quick but its no 6cyl turbo.
