Power steering / AC compressor belt confusion

Hey guys I need a little help here. While inspecting my engine belts I noticed a bad section about an inch long where all but one of the ribs is missing on one side. The belt on my car is double sided. I called the local dealership and gave them my VIN. I was told RIBBED V-BELT 6PK X 1067 1 11287838200 was the part I needed. I ordered the belt from bmwpartspro.com. The belt arrived yesterday and it is single sided. When I told this to bmwpartspro the answer I received was I must have an aftermarket belt. I do not have an aftermarket pulley or belt. So my question is what is the part number I need? My car is a DCT 07/2008 build.

I am not an expert, but having just gone through the process of selecting an underdrive pulley, here's what I have learnt:

Most likely your car requires a double sided belt due to the routing of the belt that was revised as of 06-2008 builds.

Here's a link to my thread. Look at post #3 from Tom, it clearly shows the two belt routings. The second one requires a two sided belt.

I agree, however if you zoom in the DCT photo look at the belt closely. It shows print on the belt at the AC Compressor. It would appear the power steering needs the outside of the belt to be ribbed?

Both sides need to be ribbed.
I had to replace mine last year and I ordered part #11287841529 and it came ribbed on both sides. I was facing the same dilemma and had to order 3 times before i got the right one I needed.
I had to wait for about 2 weeks for the double sided belt to come in and my old one was shredded so I ran the single sided for a couple weeks while waiting and it worked fine but I was paranoid that the belt would slip off.

EDIT- I changed the part number to the correct part number for the double sided ribbed

So i just called my parts guy and he refreshed my memory.
Originally I ordered part # 11287838200 and it came in ribbed on 1 side
Then I ordered part # 11287841529 and it was ribbed on both sides

Hope this helps

Thanks for your help, it figures that with a 50/50 chance I would be quoted the wrong part number. The guy at the parts counter near where I live is a moron.

I have called and spoke to Jon at www.bmwpartspros.com. Even though the part number matches my VIN they are going to send me a UPS return label to swap out the belts. Now that is customer service!!
