No Guzzler Tax??
Went online to build a 2012 M3 coupe w/DCT, and to my surprise, there was no gas guzzler tax.Is this just a mistake on the website or are M3's getting better gas mileage these days??

I don't get it. When I SEARCH "gas guzzler" there are 17 pages of threads with the newest being at the top. These newer ones all have people who have asked the same thing. So how did you search and come up with nothing?

In Ontario, Canada the E90 and E92 M3s were taken off of the gas guzzler tax list sometime in the 2011 model year. I bought one in February, 2011 and didn't pay it. The sales associate was quite surprised when he wrote up the bill of sale and it wasn't added by the program the dealership uses. I think that maybe the auto stop feature changed things. E93 didn't make it due to its weight.
Maybe a similar thing happened in the US? Maybe try building an E93 and see if it adds it? Last edited by goldminer; 10-25-2011 at 03:06 PM.. |

since none of the 2012s have been released yet
i don't think it's official yet i heard from my SA that they did not retest the 2011 models after the Auto start/stop thing so this year they are testing them i assume that doesn't affect the mileage ratings but if it does we might save the gas guzzler? not sure how many miles per gallon you need to have for that can anyone chime in?

I paid for my '12 E92 M3, and there was definitely a $1300 gas guzzler charge. |

none of the 2012s have been released yet so even the dealers don't know very much about the gas guzzler yet i have the 1300 on my documentation too but until the car comes out, i don't think that's 100%

Also, I believe the GGT is not based on the EPA city/highway published mpg but on some other "average" mpg rating. |

I believe the new test will take stop/start into consideration for future models...won't help the OP though.

Start/stop is just a freaking gimmick IMO. Same crap with GM's 'skip shift' feature on manual Vettes and CTS-Vs, or gulping your big mac, biggie fries, and apple pie with a diet coke (chemicals used to suppress sugar usually do more harm than sugar). But to each his own . If you want to save gas, don't buy a freaking gas guzzler car to begin with . Have a good one gang.

and fuel consumption by 3%. and from a car lover, the more we can save by things like this, the longer we can keep enjoying our cars before the god damn tree huggers ban them cuz it kills baby pandas. and if it makes no differnce on how we enjoy our cars, and it helps the enviornment, that to me a is a win-win source: http://www.m-power.com/_open/s/conta...lang=en&x=2074

I took what you said at face value, but still had to find it in print.
And it's true...GGT for 2012 M3. Worse efficiency SUVs still get a pass. Where's the disincentive?

Interesting with the x6 that is crazy.
I think things like stop-start is a brilliant thing from bmw because it will contribute to decreasing the CO2 and gas consumption when measured but you can turn it off when you get your car so its the best of both worlds. Keeps bmw able to continue to build high power cars but we can disable it once it arrives. Not saying this alone will enable continued production of high hp but things like this. |

maybe its the weight issue.......and its crazy logic.......for example, the FORD F150 RAPTOR (love it by the way), although it gives like 11mpg in city and 15-16mpg on highway (EPA figures) still does not have GGT, because the amount it weighs - it lands in the "exempt" category........
