Any semi-basic books out there?

I was wondering if any of you have some suggestions on books out there that can be appreciated by people like me, relatively new to tracking and who would like to learn about the basics and how to learn about and optimize settings like spring rates, roll bar diameter/design, shock bounce/rebound settings, alignment/corner balance, tires, etc

Any help would be appreciated.

Something like speed secrets for example, whereas excellent, is more about technique rather than knowledge of components.

glad he did it i was gonna say same thing. i have the new ultimate speed secrets which is just a compliation of all the earlier works. still not a lot about individual components in it. i would be interested in the same thing so you know how to better set up and evaluate not only your own performance but your cars.

something like Competition Car Suspension by Allan Staniforth is excellent but I feel may be too technical for what I need

im in to see what people say. id like to know about suspension and tire mostly. evaluating temps and pressures and how they affect things. so you can come to feel what needs to be changed to achieve your goal. basically like a pro.

Tune to Win by Carroll Smith. It has everything you are asking for. It is not a book on driving technique.

Haha, sorry. I must have missed your last sentence. Regardless, it was a helpful book to me to help me start to think about how suspensions work and how my changes to it would effect the car. Good luck with your search.

This one is more about technique than car setup/tuning but does have a section on hardware, probably not what your looking for but good info
all around.

I Highly recommend "Driving on the Edge" by Michael Krumm. It came out last year I believe? Its a lot more recent than the other books in this thread. It's what I recommend for any of our customers looking at getting into tracking. Not overly analytic, great read for newbies and experienced drivers alike.
