NYS Inspection

My car has to be inspect this month. I have an Akrapovic Evolution and ESS tune. Is there anyway to pass inspection without having the stock xpipe put back on?

Do you have a CEL on or any stored codes pending?

As long as you dont have a check engine light and fault codes stored you can pass with 1 code I believe.

No, I currently do not have a CEL, but I don't know if there are any stored codes. Is there any way to check?

I don't believe that's accurate. I've been told by a BMW Master tech that regardless of codes, tune, etc the car will not pass the readiness test.

I would love to hear otherwise, but i don't think we will. Curious to hear how the OP makes out.

How can you check if you have any stored codes? I have a tune, so CEL is not a worry.

When I had my STi I passed with 1 stored code(catless o2 sensor fault). But IF you have a check engine light on, it WON'T pass. It connects right to the DMW, the techs really don't have a say with anything. I would tell them to run scan ur computer from the OBD2 port prior to hooking it up to the inspection computer, to see if you have any stored codes..

You have to make sure your readiness monitors are passing/ complete . 2001 + your allowed one monitor to be failed/ incomplete and must not have a check engine light. And also whatever stuff you have missing the tune should have these monitors passing/complete.

My other car doesn't even have a mass air flow sensor, no cat, no post 02 sensor and a bunch of other sensors and still pass because of the programming forcing all monitors to pass/complete

IVE SENT AT LEAST 10 GUYS TO MY SHOP WITH THE SAME RESULTS.

THE SHOP ISNT DOING ANYTHING ILLEGAL NOR WOULD I ASK THEM TO.

THE CARS PASS
Wouldn't it fail the visual inspection?

I ran a supercharger and a cat-less x-pipe, and any shop that will pass you is doing something illegal, let's not kid ourselves here. You fail visual inspection, and everybody in the shop can smell it. They just looked the other way, which is cool, but yes, it is illegal, especially since removing cats is a federal offense.

We are all aware of it, and I don't care, but lets be honest here.

Just an update. I passed my inspection last weekend with no problems. The mechanic took a readout of my car before hooking it up to the computer and said it was good to go. I'm assuming I only had on stored code and with no CEL I was passable. Hope that helps if anyone else has an upcoming inspection under similar circumstances.

This is great. My inspection is not due till march, but now i dont worry about removing everything before inspection.
So, no cats, no check engine light, no problem?

This was an issue for me. I have no primary cats, ESS supercharger. My car didnt pass the readiness test, so I didnt get an inspection sticker. No clue what to do.
