E9x USB Version

Anybody know the version of USB for the E9x usb port? I bought a USB 3 drive for importing music to my HD, it seems pretty quick, but don't know if it's utilizing the USB 3. My guess would be no, but found no evidence.

I'm pretty sure the car takes USB 2.0. USB 3.0 has 5 add'l contacts to help speed up the transfer. Easiest way would be to look @ the contact head of the car.

that connector is the SuperSpeed USB 3.1 connector....USB 3.0 is the exact same connector as 2.0 and backward compatible.

You are incorrect. The standard 2.0 USB connector has 4 pins....always has, always will. The USB 3.0 connector, also known as "Superspeed", has 9 pins, always has, always will.

The connector I showed above was a double USB 3.0 connector. Here is a PIN reference guide:

Here's the wikipedia article regarding the same:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_3.0

Additionally, 3.1 devices won't be available until early 2014, as the standard was just finalized not too long ago.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-575...up-to-10-gbps/

You are, however, correct in that 3.0 is backwards compatible into 2.0

My bad, somehow I thought USB 3.1 was SuperSpeed.
