M3 to 1M

Has anyone ever gone from an M3 to a 1M, or even what's your opinion about the two cars? I was thinking maybe after a couple years with my M3 I'd get either a 1M, or the M2, maybe even the M4

If I'm not mistaken, Powerbeast went from M3 to 1M and back to the real M car, I mean M3.

Just try to drive both, and feel which one suits you better.

In what ways will the new M3 be similar to the 1M, aside from the engine config?

Similar weight, I'd guess. Won't be as small, which is part of the draw of the 1M.

The 1M was a bit cobbled-together, with lots of parts from the E9x M3 - we'll see what improvements they make with the F8x's suspension/brake components.

Cobbled together or not, it's a solid performer than can and does perform like an M should.

Regardless, the 1M's main competition is the 2006-2008 Z4MC, 2001-2006 E46 M3, and the 2009-2013 Z4 35is. Not the E92/E90 M3 or the F80 M3/M4.

1M is a sick car, I don't know why so many people are talking trash about it. From my understanding, the backseats are pretty unusable, and that for me was a no-go. That and I think they are overvalued (pre-owned ones are still going for the MSRP they had when they were new).

I think it's a solid, small car. Gets much better MPG than the m3, which for me is important since I use my m3 every day. I personally think turbo cars are fun as hell with tons of torque. Still, I like the NA experience I'm having right now (last car was turbo'd) and like having a very usable backseat!

I agree with that. The 135M is proving to be a good car as well; hopefully a very good sign for the 235M and M2 we'll eventually see stateside.

I wasn't trying to come across as trashing the 1M, but it's a fact that it is much more of a parts-bin special compared with the M cars that came before it.

Doesn't make the result any less brilliant; it's just too bad it had to get that crappy 1-series wrapping...

Do you like your M3? Just wondering, as you are already thinking, "in two years time"...

If you prefer the 1M, trade it now. Life is too short. If you think the M2 will be a hoot, wait. I suspect it will be even better.

Capt. James T Kirk wrote an extensive and controversial review on his move to a 1M. he no longer hangs out here anymore...

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...ghlight=review

plus M2, M4 etc etc, you're talking about cars that doesn't even exist right now. Until those cars are out in the marketplace, there's no way anyone can even review for you which is a better car.

If you want a 1M, then go test drive one and buy one if you like it. In 2 years the 1M is no spring chicken...

The back seats are usable...unless you're trying to stuff Lebron James back there. Lol I have a carseat in mine at all time for my daughter.

The huge fender flares kind of even out the looks a little. Combined with the lci headlights, the flares and front facia make lights look a little smaller.

I think it looks great....but I also think the M3 looks great. 1M looks mean and menacing and the M3 looks sleaker...both great cars.

The M4 is going to look badass and will be lighter.

I have to admit, I haven't sat in one personally, I'm just going by reviews I read online. Have you fit an adult back there? From what I hear, it's not the headroom that is bad, it's the legroom (which wouldn't be an issue for a kid in a car seat).

Your car looks sick btw.

Overvalued, unusable.... First off, the value of ANYTHING in this world is what someone is willing to pay for it. The used market is strong on the 1M's because it is a desirable car. Simple supply and demand.

Second the rear seats are practically the same. Why people keep saying the rear seats are useless is beyond me.

Did you miss the measurements I provided? nothing to indicate that going from M3 to 1M would be 'unusable' all of the sudden.
