How to remove tree sap from the car

hey, i made a mistake of parking the car under trees and i got tree sap on paint. I want to remove it with alcohol but i am scared it would cause discoloration on paint.
Any suggestions?

On my Black 2008 335i, I got sap off using alcohol & cotton balls. No harm done. Spot test it to be sure. Look the the detail forum. I'm sure there's a thread.

Alcohol swaps if you have them in a 1st aid kit.
OR
Medical alcohol and clean cloth.
OR
Rubbing compound
Best results when you combine #2 and 3

You can get tree sap/ tar remover for about $8 at any auto supply store. I use it all the time on my current Jet black 335. Just remember not to apply it in direct sun light.

Goo gone, or a mix of denatured alcohol and water.. I have used both and the clearcoat/paint was not damaged. I made sure to wash the area after with soap and water though. Good luck!

Arrow

Go to your local BMW Dealership and buy:

>>> BMW tree sap remover

I have used it endless of times works great and does not affect your clear coat, it costs like $8 bucks you cannot go wrong.

try QD first, then some aggressive clay, or even Iron X if its still there.

lay some wax or sealant over the spot once its gone if you had to clay or Iron x

I didnt know BMW had this.. IMHO, I would go with this first since its made by BMW and seems like the remedy for your exact situation.... Good luck!

what i'd do, first pour some warm water over it (loosen it up a little)

then, clay bar the area.

Google "Removing Tree Sap From Car" and you will get lots of ideas - some relatively benign and some that you might want to avoid. I have used a dab of my wife's nail polish remover on a (real not paper) towel. Worked great. Apply wax on the spot after. Good luck.

Goo Gone works like a charm. Just need some elbow grease.

Great info people. Thanks. I just moved my car because I noted a fairly large sappy tree after I got out of the driver's seat. LOL.

Thanks alot guys. i went to the garage of the building to clean it up with alcohol and i saw a safelight glass repair guy who told me to dip some cotton on almost boiling hot water and gently remove the saps. It worked great and caused no discoloration.

I just tried the almost boiling water trick. Worked great. My advice is to put a clean towel over the sap and then pour the water on the towel so that the it soaks in and heats the sap. If you pour the water directly on the sap, it will just roll down the hood.

Once warm, run gently. Sap comes right off. Wax as needed.
