Laguna Seca How Much Time Do You Loose From Lifting

ok i know i have posted alot of threads around the sound issues with laguna but i want to make sure i cover all my options before i choose the route i want to go...if i want to run a louder exhaust and lift or run a quiet 90db or lower exhaust (i really dont want to go this route) or swap on and off the oem muffler which is what i do now and its getting older....now of course im going to try the turn away setup if the exhaust does not pass....

ok so those of you that lift at laguna what amount of time do you think you loose...now of course alot of variables can change things but im just looking for a rough est....thank you for your time

I'm sure it's about a second. I lift as I have an OEM Exhaust mod done and blew 94-95db's in the past.

Have you thought of getting an exhaust where you can open/close valves? IPE or Evolve?

Gotcha. Just throwing some suggestions out there for sound reduction options.

You only need to lift if you are by yourself while passing the soundbooth. If you are clustered with cars you don't have to lift as they won't know which car is exceeding the limit. I would only lift if you get pulled aside with a warning. It was a 92db week when I was there and I never got pinched with my Akra Evo.

Funny you say that. Every time I've gotten flagged was because of cars around me. I never get flagged when I'm alone. Akra Evo passes 90db days as well.

Weird. I was told that if a group of cars exceeds the limit they make notes of the individual cars and look for them in future laps hoping that they are solo. It seems counterproductive to flag the group when typically one car is the cause.

I've seen them flag whole sessions because enough cars were over the limit. I don't think it matters, loosing time there, since you are not in an active time trial or race.

Yes, serious. What makes you not sure. Guys here all so gung ho! over times when again it's HPDE, not comp. If you're racing then it's a diff story but when we're talking a second or two (that you know what/why the cause of additional time is from) then who cares.

What do you win if you don't lift and run the fastest of the day? LOL

Ok first off Its now clear you are not a guy whos heavy into the track scene..not a issue.... my 1st question would be how do you know if your driving skill is improving? 2nd any person who is heavy into the track scene will tell you it is in fact a competition. .. between you, your self, the car, the track and the clock.... if your not interested in pushing the boundaries amd competing against your self and do not take hpde days serious then whats the point..I run open class in my club and I go to the track and see it as a very competitive environment not against others but against everything I stated above... but this really shouldn't have to be explained. .just my 2 cents

If you use a AiM Solo you can easily see your progression even with a lift or a short shift by the sound booth. Unless it's open passing everywhere you're gonna be lifting all over the place when you reach traffic.

Yes, point proven, wrecked car in HPDE> I feel terrible looking at these pics, and also reading the thread down in this sub forum about the death at Summit... But why does it need to happen at all for DE events?

Racing (competitively) seems safer due to the awareness and skill alone of the participants. Too many HPDE events are full of guys w/ more money than skills and shit happens. You lift w/ traffic on track, no? This isn't wheel 2 wheel. My point is that (and it has been posted before too) too many are concerned w/ every little second at DE events. I get we all want to be better but you can still measure progress by removing the variables (i.e. lifting for traffic/noise, etc.)
