How strong is the front suspension and subframe
Hi. The reason I ask is that today I drove over a deep pothole. The car is driving fine though I did not push it. On reaching my place I inspected the under carriage and found some scratches on the black felt like stuff. I am getting a bit paranoid because when I hit the pothole the thud and sound was very loud and it felt like some thing could have broken or bent.
Should I check for some thing, please advise |

Bring it in and have the dealer look at it. I work in a virtual construction zone with horrible roads/potholes/road plates around my building and think I hit one pothole too many. The suspension was making feint rubbing like noises when turned the wheel and it definitely had more of a "springy" feel to it. Turns out both front struts had to be completely replaced (covered under warranty). I'm not sure what parts of the suspension were defective (everything strut related was replaced), as at the time I was also getting my MPE installed and was much more focused this rather than asking a bunch of questions!

Yeah, if you suspect you might have damaged it, take it in. The suspension components in there are not made of the sturdiest materials in the world--aluminum, and they can be bent.

Thanks.Took it to the dealer and explained to them as to what had happened, they said that the subframe would not get damaged as the suspension would take most of the sting out. Still they put the car on the alignment machine and found every thing in spec. Thanks again for the advice.

Better safe than sorry. The worry is now gone.
