I asked the developer this via email today. I'll post his reply.

I programmed my wife's 2010 328 today with the engine running and it appeared to work without issue (thanks for saying it worked for you, I would not have tried it). Yesterday I was not able to get it to recognize the ECUs and I'm wondering if the battery was not strong enough or if I made some other connection mistake (maybe I didn't connect when it was in ignition 2 -- fob in dash and start pressed)...can't remember.

I can also concur that the Vgate iCar iV350 WiFi ELM327 from Amazon works, like others have confirmed.

THIS will be your only issue as I see it as the vehicle will keep shutting down from the "on" position in order to save battery. That is the only time you wont see the ECU's or unless the vehicle is too old. Prior to 03/2007.
Thanks for emailing the developer too. It will save additional money if we don't need a battery tender and can perform coding while the car is running. Not a big deal EITHER way. THERE IS A LOT OF PROMISE IN THIS SOFTWARE AND DEVICE! I'm sold on it. Thank the developer for ALL of us.

Anyone know if it can code a new battery?
Where are you guys finding the dongle for around $20?

My only gripe and it's minor is you should invest in a battery tender as I could see his battery slowly being drained on the meter. We only had it on the car 20 minutes or so but the car must be in the ON position. That's my only beef and not a big deal. Unbelievable!!!!!
Can you share where you got that for $20?
Thanks.

The dongles are $20 on Amazon, plus a few bucks for shipping (or if you have Prime, free). Just search for ELM327.

Strangely I didn't see battery coding in the list of coding options. I may have just overlooked it. IT'S A LONG LIST. If it's not an option yet I can't imagine it'll stay that way for long.

Thank dparm and PhillyNate.

Hopefully they'll add the Batter reset feature soon.

Anyone try the Bluetooth versions? Amazon has a bunch of them available for around $12, and I'm thinking it'll use less power compared to the wifi version.

I just looked and did not see battery coding. GLARING ommission that I'm sure the developer is being swamped with emails about. This is GREAT software but we all need to make the developer aware this is extremely important.

Has anyone checked if you can reset adaptations with this? I asked once before but didn't see any replies.

Just email the developer. It looks like he wants input. I just did about battery coding/registration.

Nice!
The iPhone software won't let you connect to BlueTooth devices like the obd readers.

Thanks but I CANNOT take credit for this. I presume he was already working on it.

It would be handy if the DCT adaption could be switched off rather than just reset.

It does, but only supported bluetooth devices.
I have a GoPoint OBD2 Dongle I use with my iPhone.
I also use it with other apps to read codes.
Haven't tried it with this app, but it should work.

http://gopointtech.com/products/

It does cost a bit more thought, fully worth it for me though, I got it 2 years ago and use it to overlay obd2 data on track videos with Harry's Lap Timer.

This was in my E36, don't have video yet with the e92

Yes it will connect but data can't be read. tdott says he has an app he's been using with his dongle for a couple years now. When I was on the iphone, I had an ELM OBD2 reader and it would connect but not read from it. What what I read online, people were unable to grab data from the ELM device because it wasn't supported by Apple.

Some cool new stuff has cropped up since last time I used it:

You can turn off the auto-on for the AC compressor, so that when you turn the system on it doesn't automatically start the air con. Always annoyed me in winter

You can turn off the headlight washers completely or change how often they come on (how about never, is never a good time for you?

You can add an instant mpg readout to the gauge cluster.

Some of the stuff he offers for regular e9x might never be available for the M3. I would be pleasantly surprised if he can set up battery reg which is apparently easier on the non-M than the M3. But this app continues to deliver. Not as nice as having true expert like BPM go through it but the code reading/diagnostics are why I have it. The coding is icing on the cake

Isn't a clean headlight lens required to stop the xenon bulbs from running too hot?...hence the regular wash cycle.
