Summer Tires On - Gravel HELL
Put my Summer wheels/tires on earlier today. It's been a rough winter on the roads here and they are trying to fill the potholes. The fill ends up coming out and then there is gravel all over the place (little pieces of tar).
Not a big deal until the Summer tires went on. Now it all sticks to them and i'm shooting up a rainbow of gravel from all my wheels - even flying through the windows I'm seriously about to bring a broom outside and sweep the entrance to my neighborhood ( it's bad). |

Why does the gravel stick to the summer tires more than the winter tires? I don't get it.
Either way, yeah this happens every year and it does suck, but at least it doesn't last long. |

Seriously, I get the same thing. Those summer tires stick to everything. The snows are much better at brushing off gravel or maybe more gets caught in the tread, etc.
Or it could all be in my imagination. Regardless, I hate gravel. |

The summer tires are a much softer rubber so when they heat up everything sticks to them. You just take the gravel with you and it starts flinging all over the place. The winters are a harder rubbers so they don't stick, you just go over it.

So i ended up spending about an hour and a half sweeping the entrance to my neighborhood. Had a lot of these looks from drivers
Is it bad when you start to maintain public roads to avoid rock chips? |

I was just about to put my summer tires back on my X5...thanks to this thread, I think I'll wait.

No? I should add, I've never noticed the difference in gravel stickiness between the two, but then they don't usually start filling the holes around here until I already have the summers on. |

Lol, I just dug up this thread because they are repaving our street and it's complete misery in the M3. Gravel flinging everywhere, even while crawling along. Our other 2 cars, including the 335d, can blow through the 3/4 mile stretch with hardly a sound. To make things worse, they dug up the road and have since ceased construction for over a week now. Ugh! I'm driving the D more to keep the M safe but the longing to drive the M is agony.
