As you can probably tell that video is dated. In 2011 (2009 model in video) they revised the suspension, differential and steering resulting in significant improvements.
See below: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review However, I also prefer the M3 Last edited by erio; 11-24-2013 at 08:30 AM.. |

Yep, the revisions have made it basically as fast as an M3 on the track. IS F is an outstanding vehicle. I know it gets ripped on for the "fake" exhaust and 8-speed trans, but go drive one and you will see that it is an extremely capable package.

ISF is a blast to drive no matter the 8 speed true automatic transmission. The motor sounds so sweet and throaty and the tranny actually feels like it's geared just right.

I test drove one before I got my M, and was really impressed overall. Less engagement than I would like, but still very nice!

Agree, you could've fooled me -- feels like a dual-clutch. I had a 2013 out on the track earlier this year and it was very confidence-inspiring at the limit.

Totally agree. Had it been available with a manual transmission, I would have bought it over my E90M3. The BMW, IMO, remains the more engaging car but the fit, finish, NVH, nav, stereo, and other "every day" aspects of the Lexus are superior.

I comment from personal experience:
- I had a '09 ISF - Also had a '09 911 Carrera 4S Now I have '13 E92 M3 DCT, competition package M3 feels much better than the '09 ISF (have not driven the improved ISF yet); M3 I like more than the 997.2 C4S ! Really impressed with my actual car... |

Cool car. But I don't see the appeal over a C63

Reliability, build quality, and lower cost of ownership. I see C63s everywhere. I might see one or two IS Fs a month. The Lexus is way quieter and more comfortable, but just as sporty when the time is right.

Not mad at all, just not for me. I was really hopping to love it, but it was just to loose and wild for me to really control and enjoy... Maybe a better driver...

I test drove a 2011 or 2012 IS-F and it was nice, but no M3. The interior on the IS-F felt dated and I didn't like the transmission. It felt like some of the gears were way too tall.
Dealer called me twice after the test drive offering pretty good deals on it. Must not have been moving well...

Haven't driven either on the track, but I have a buddy that has a 2011, and drove the old one before (same two I've ever driven), and all I hear from him is how much better the new one is (on the road I can concur)... and how much more he likes it than the M3... So much for his opinions...
