Agreed, I really don't understand the torque argument, however your other reasons make sense. Good luck with your switch and new car!

I recommend you trade her in for whatever you like to drive next. Consider the tax advantage (I assume it is the same in the US trade in value minus the new car price only the balance is taxable).

You will not get that in a private sale as I am sure you know.

GLWTS and finding your next car

PS. I have great fun whenever I take my M3 for a spin ... In city traffic I love driving our DD the Benz C350 even she has plenty of torque

The torque arguement is silly when people say the M3 is anemic or feels like the s2ks and miatas that were big during the high school years (well at least for me it was). The m3 certainly has enough torque for DD. But it makes perfect sense when people complain about the torque in consideration to mileage, performance value, and the powerband.

Decided to keep the M for another year or two. Made my decision based on the fact that I didn't like the c63 or 335 enough to switch over before at least seeing the next-generation 5.0, and M2. The 5.0 would give me over 95% of the performance for less than 50% of the cost so I can spoil my loved ones more, while the M2 would give me 1M like performance with the added benefits of M-DCT and a few more years of R&D to hopefully make a more reliable engine than the N54.

m3 295lb/ft at 14mpg city that comes on high on the revband at $75k

vs

c63 443lb/ft at 12mpg at any speed and most gears at $75k. With so much torque and HP from 6.2 liters the mpg is more or less unavoidable.

335 300lb/ft at 18mpg at any speed and most gears at $50k, excellent torque/mpg ratio.

5.0 390lb/ft at 16mpg at any speed and most gears at $40k, excellent torque/mpg ratio.

Nothing wrong with an unbiased critique of the M3 rigth?

On M3, if I'm not gentle on the throttle I lose traction, you can't use more torque.
MPG varies on my foot but 335i got much more low end torque. I traded 335i for an m3

Didn't feel the low end torque on 335i...what I felt though is that 335i was falling on its face at 5k rpm, whereas the M3 is going crazy after 5k rpm....this was what sold me on M3.

He's in California where we have to pay tax on the full amount of the new car. They tax us on everything here, we're lucky we're not paying tax on the trade-in!

We even have to pay tax on subsidies. So a $500 iPhone costs us $700 worth of tax.

Yes m engines are high strung and def lack torque and need to be revved. But it is what it is. But for everyone else saying the contrary then you haven't driven fast cars

My advice would be to keep it until the F80 M3 rolls off the line. It'll have more torque. In the meantime, turn DSC off and enjoy/feel the torque you currently have. The 335 is a downgrade in driving pleasure to me...even around town.

Agree ..but in all fairness..its where in the RPM band the torque is available that counts. Big difference

295 @3900RPM (M3)
300 @1500RPM (335)

This is a bad way to look at this cause the M3 tq only varies ~10 - 20 lbs the whole rpm band and the m is geared way more aggressively.

And the 335 just loses tq after 1500rpm

Plus in daily driving m or 335 I am closer to 3k then I am 1.5k.

Anyway if low end tq was all that by a diesel or c63

Just drive the cars buy what you like...

When people will learn that torque at the wheels is what matters?

As I said, I need to be gentle on throttle or I lose traction....

Really? One of these? This looks like it would make a great rally car.

Wait, it would! This looks like it could pass a truck no problem.

Europeans have ALL the cool cars...
(I know there is a non turbo model, but the rally and turbo ones look cool as hell...)
