There is a part of me that wonders if car dealers (non-BMW) add them to spice up a used car.

I bet, on average, if they add an ///M badge they can sell a car for more money.

It reminds me a bit of these dealers that create their own "packages" and put a badge on them.

I bet it happens...

What kind of a guy does that other than a poser? He's probably wearing a fake watch, too.
.
In my book, a poser would be someone pretending to be something they are not. I don't really see this guy in that category. If he put an M3 badge on the back, and especially if he bought M3 OEM body work to go with it, then that would be pushing it. But its just an M badge and there's clearly no agregious attempt to try and fool people into thinking it is an M3.

Just as point of comparison, on the poser scale, I would register this guy far below someone who actually has a real M3, but who goes to meets or local tracks, talks up their superior driving ability and tries to associate that with their car, but never actually takes the car out on the track and has no car control skills at all. (And make no mistake - I am not saying I am great driver myself - but I don't claim to be either, nor did I buy the car in an attempt to make others think so).

I'm not telling the poser what to do. I'm simply mocking him. There's a difference.

As for your fake watches...
An authentic watch can last a lifetime. But even so, Why not just be authentic with a more economical watch? I'd rather wear a real Swatch or Seiko than a fake Rolex or Patek.

Authenticity is integrity. When I had my first BMW it was a 325i and I was very proud to have it. It was a great car.

True. You make a good point here. He's not exactly putting an M3 badge on. Just an ///M. It's definitely a milder form of poseriety.

Yes! Me, too! That's permissible as more of a performance enhancement. Improving on the factory spec.

Many folks have the desire to own a $73k car, but can only afford the $50 with the M sport package. I don't fault those folks, I was there once. This guy isn't a poser in my book, the guys with the DINAN badges that they bought off of eBay and slapped them on the back of a 328i... Those are posers... A M badge alone doesn't denote that it is an M car, it is just M tuned. As far as watches, I own the real thing and a replica... Just in case we go somewhere shady, or when I send the real thing off for it's ridiculous servicing so it WILL last a lifetime

If you are going to define a word try and use the correct word and spelling ---RIF Reading is fundamental

Poser - (1) A puzzling or baffling question (2) A person who poses (such as in a picture)

Poseur - a person who pretends to be what he or she is not : an affected or insincere person

Agree with OP ... the ///M badge is being distributed much to loosely as of late and there seams to be no end in sight. Oh well.

Pardon me, Pepe LePew. But I did get my definition from a reliable source. Your spelling is only a secondary French-root.

Actually, that's why I admire the more understated styles of Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. Put on a low-end Rolex or even a replica of one and someone is looking to hit you over the head for it. Put on a Patek for a twenty times the value and no one will notice. That's what I call class!... that and Maahble Calumns!
