Or edmunds was wrong, a much more likely scenario
Yeah, these offers come and go all the time. It's quite possible that it did expire and was replaced. My CA also told me at the time of my offer that he didn't know if the loyalty discount would be in effect when i got my car.

Here's a link to the current loyalty offer. It expires Jan 2, 2012.

The Drive for Team USA offer expired on Oct 31, but it's sounding like BMW is going to honor it if your car would have been delivered by that date if it weren't for the emissions delay.

I missed the chance to go to one of the drive events and was kicking myself, but it turns out that it wouldn't have mattered as my car didn't reach the VPC until Nov 1, so it would have been impossible to take delivery by Oct 31 anyways.

October is now finished
So technically that offer is no longer valid
So that's why i called my dealer to check
my dealer told me that it expires at the end of the year...maybe we are different?

You can do the math pretty quickly and see that if you plan on financing a good amount of the purchase you'd be better off at a lower rate and not taking the $1,000. Assuming you can get the lower rate.....
Yep, that's why I went with my credit union at 2.4% (60 months) which I had already stated above. Plus, I'm already getting the loyalty discount. My statement about talking to my CA was to confirm the Nov rebate required financing thru BMWFS which has already been confirmed by several people.

Cleared by EPA

Just spoke with Chris Nevers. EPA certified on 10/18. He said he was going to send me a copy of the certificate. He said he would also call his BMW contact and get to the bottom of the problem.

Wow, excellent work! Thanks for the update!

Um, so what's up then... This is somehow BMWs fault? Grrrr.

Cool, please share!

At least we can put to bed all those rumors about 'less power' for the '12s to meet EPA specs'.

Ha ha it's still possible they did cut the power to meet the specs on 10/18, but I doubt it

When I drove my '12 last week in Europe, it certainly didn't feel down on power

That's the thousand dollar question - especially since that's who BMW has been blaming this delay on.

We interrupt this bubble of happiness to report:

The mere fact that all MY2012 M3 are stuck at the ports right now due to this EPA snafu or whatever shows that the ED/factory engine tune in Germany not necessarily translates to the same US tune from the point of view of the EPA testing. Anything can happen in between the trip back to the USA. And it did.

Hopefully we will get all 414 horses intact... or maybe replaced by some ponies.

There is an issue with the EPA certification and the 2012 M3. This looks that has been an issue since last summer as the reason of BMWNA granting my ED pick up date before the official date of Oct 15 was due of not requiring any EPA certification in Germany. This was a conversation that I had with BMWNA corporate at that time.

So the expectation was that by the time my car landed in the USA (past November) this certification had been a done deal as for every other 2012 M3 by then.

But it did not work out that way for anybody, obviously.

I dunno how one could check the ECU tune of a '12 vs. an '11, but I'm sure someone knows. Actually, we should have checked the software during ED, then upon pickup!

I'm not even worried about it... the scenario described above that would change/lower power seems like a long shot, to me at least.

My point was that what happened in Germany/ED stays in Germany.

IMO, we will not get any detuned engine/software or whatever -it is too late for that or it should have been done already. For me what's going on here is just paperwork timing, or in the worst case a "re-interpretation" of the results so the approval is issued.

This seems like the most likely case.

For all you guys waiting for your cars to ship, here is a cool video of how the cars actually get put on the ships. The sound quality sucks but the content is amazing.
