How long to get production date?

I put in an order a few weeks ago and just got a production number. Unfortunately, no one seems to know when they're actually going to build the car. I also called the 800 number and it didn't have a production date.

Generally, how long does it take to get the production date sorted out? I'd like to know which PW we're looking at so I can begin preparing to sell my current car.

Your CA should be able to get that for you but many seem unwilling to make the effort. My CA gave me the production week and when the time came, the name of the ship my car was on and when it was due in port.

Also, when you used the 800 number did you actually speak to a person or listen to the recording? The recording will simply give current status as I recall such as "scheduled for production". Press "0" or what ever to get to a representative, they can look up the production number and provide some more information as well.

I did speak to a person afterwards, but she told me that they couldn't do anything and didn't even ask for my production number. My CA also has no idea which PW is targetted. Should I call BMWNA again on Monday?

Being a '12, things might be in flux a bit. Also recall that the factory does close in August... Give it some time. Bottom line is each dealer is given a monthly allocation based on sales history. You may have ordered but if the dealer doesn't have an available production allocation, you may be pushed back a month. If this is the case, some CA's won't tell you this thinking you might go to another dealer with an available slot. But who knows, never hurts to press your CA for information. They have it or can get it.

According to my dealer, I'm the first customer order, so hopefully I get their first allocation spot!
