Yeah, make sure the dealer sets all that up for you at the time of the purchase. The sales guy didn't on my '11.
As for the frustrating experience when calling BMW Assist, been there, done that. You go thru at least 2 different groups of people during the incident (both when you call in or when they call you back) and one group seems to be disconnected from the other and you wind up repeating a lot of the same sh*t to them.

They had all my information and even GPS location when I called a few weeks ago. You should set up the Assist feature. You can even send Addresses straight from Google Maps to the Nav. Pretty neat. Sucks and sorry about the pothole. Hopefully you got the wheel+tire insurance, here in Southern California - Los Angeles - that's almost a required necessity with all the potholes and shit roads we have. Go figure the city with some of the most exotic and expensive cars in the world has some of the worst roads in the world. After we're done with our 7-day storm I can't even imagine how bad certain roads in SoCal will be. Good luck with your tow!

back home now.
do tow truck drivers usually drive you home? I had my car dropped off at dealer's drop off location. Tonight I had friend to drive me home... but if I hadn't I am just wondering? do I call a cab? I don't have tire insurance. How much are they? Do I get them when i get new tires? at the dealership? Can I only claim them at the dealership? It's third flat I had in 2010. I think it will be worth it if terms and conditions are right. Thanks for the advice. It was frustrating. Tired, driving home with tone of work to do than this happens and I am stuck on the side of the road repeating the same info to different group of people over and over again. I paid $1000 flat for my wheel & tire insurance (I believe it's $1300-1700).
Well worth it if you drive in a city full of potholes. They'll replace any tire(s) and wheel(s) for free, it's now a BMW NA product so any dealership can honor it.

I pressed the SOS button just to test it out, and had to go through the entire account setup for like 30 minutes... Shouldn't BMWNA have got my info from my dealership already? I thought we are living in the internet era, not fax or 56k modem

I had a flat (right rear) on the freeway about a year ago and the left rear was almost worn out too, so after the car got towed to a nearby dealer, I changed the rear two w/ the same OE PS2's and the bill came out at $980. You don't have to change the tires at the dealer. If it's just a nail puncture, you can have it patched anywhere for like $20. But, strictly speaking, BMW says that's a no-no, at least on leased cars (I think it's due to possible danger on cars that can go as fast as M3's can). The info is not automatically sent (yeah, I hear you re: Internet era). The sales guy needs to register it for the customer/buyer and put in all that info. I realized that the sales guy on my '11 didn't do that when I received a letter from BMWNA about a month later stating that they noticed that my BMW Assist has not yet activated and, if I don't over next few weeks, blah blah.

Damn that is a little steep, I paid $495 flat rate for my wheel and tires insurance. I wonder if it went up since 2009?

I was instructed by my dealer to "test out" the SOS button to set things up. Only took a few minutes to confirm my information, and to test out their GPS locator.
I used my SOS quite successfully and smoothly last year when I cracked my wheel on a pothole in my E60 535i... perhaps the BMW Assist systems are different in Canada? Good luck with the repair!

My car does not receive the Google Maps messages. Apparently a technical problem that requires a service visit. BMW Assist says the problem is not on their end. Blah.

my sales guy told me to set it up after a week or so as they dont always have the ability to set it up at delivery. this might be bs but i set it up myself a week after taking delivery in my garage.
i bought the tire insurance and had to use it (2800 miles) as i picked up a 7/16 wrench on an off ramp. it would have cost me $487. that is just for one rear tire. |

Safe to assume they exclude track use from the insurance coverage?

Don't have my policy in front of me, but if you mean burning through a set of tires on the track, wear isn't covered anyway. Hit something on the track and bend a wheel? Probably the honor system would come into play, how would they know?
