You never heard this issue before!
Hi all Beemer freaks!
I have a delicat problem that I supouse you never heard before.. The car is an M3, dct, 2008. I have some fault codes that cause limp mode with the usual reduced power, TPM, Service engine, dtc and brake lamp illuminated. The engine doesn't run rough, pending idle or have coldstart issues. It behave "normally" but the rpm is limited to the usual 4,500rpm and are week when the limp mode is active. But it is not the usual problems that use to appear on these type of vehicle.. no, no.. The 3 fault codes I have is.. 1.Unknown code:CDBF 2.Unknown code:CDC0 3.Code 2B14 throttle control initialisation. I tried to erase them but they are pressent. Next step, took the car to the local bmw workshop and hoped that they could make the throttle initialisation... Unfortunateley they told me that there is no such option in their BMW tool. Althoug they reprogramed the DME, but the codes is still pressent. They told me that they could continue with the troubleshoothing but the same time they warned me that it could easly be very expensive.. they are charging over $200/h.. so I decided to try to search for some solution on my own.. With some of your expertise maybe I can save a few bucks.. Anyone with some qualified answers/sollutions? Last edited by ///Martin; 12-15-2010 at 01:21 AM.. |

It usually is the problem with one of ur cylinders thats not properly working and caused the engine mulfunction. The computer will limit the rpm to 4500 max to prevent further damage. Unfortunately, it happened to u n indeed it will cost a fortune to get it fixed... Usd3000 at least.
Hope I am wrong about the problem though. May the force be with u! |

I am pretty sure that you are wrong.. The fault code is not indicate that it have something to do with the cylinders.. The limp mode can be caused by a lot if things... some of them serious and some of them less serious faults.. If I had the electrical scheme of the DME I would measure the wirings to the different components which are connected to it.. Because I couldn't see any visual damage. My wildest guess is that the DME has in some way lost the parameters to the throttle position.. so I think a new DME would do it.. But I want to be sure before I order it. |

The fault code can be misleading. Do not trust them 100%. Have your car inspected by a BMW dealership.

Unfortunately this isnt an e46 m3... we have to learn a whole new ECU/frame/driving style fault code style...

I'd suspect the idle valve man, but it's pretty expensive to experiment with it. Or with any other recommendation for that matter. With a car like the M3, you need expert troubleshooting. Try to negotiate a fee, rather than an hourly rate, or you'll be paying somebody to learn on your car. Not good for you. Remember the service manual is only available online, so you could some of that on your own, to at least eliminate some possibilities. Good luck. That kind of nightmare is what makes me think twice about keeping this car after warranty. Too damn complex to do anything on your own .

I want to thank you for trying to come with ideas and solution but if it was the idle valve it would have other symptomes.. As long cranking at start up, rough idle and other fault codes.. I don't have those symptomes.. I have realised that I won't solve this problem on my own.. because it is like you said it is too damn complex. I probably have to take it to the workshop again and just let them suck me dry.. My wife and my daugther aint going to be too happy this christmas.. because they wont get any christmasgifts this year... Last edited by ///Martin; 12-15-2010 at 04:26 AM.. |

$200 per hour? Are they freaking nuts?! How much would a BMW-dealer in Sweden charge per hour to work on it?
Also, how come two codes are unknown? Was the car properly scanned with dealer software and components?

Hi.
It is the BMW dealer that charge $200/h.. and they don't have the best reputation.. So I have contacted an other so called Bmw specialist and see if they can take a look at it.. they are a little bit cheaper.. The unknown fault codes did I found with an error code reader.. It is a rather advanced tool, costs around $5.000.. |
