It is exceptionally refined, and with the DRC (Dynamic Ride Control) set to comfort it rides well on Spanish roads, but we need to drive it in the UK just to make sure. So you’re left with a car whose chassis wants you to relax, but whose engine and gearbox must be worked very hard to produce the performance you’d expect. Like I said, confusing. Audi set out to dethrone the M3...they had THREE years to do it. once again they developed a car that is too fat and way way too expensive. as i said before Audi needs to focus on building cars....focus on what they do well.....fix what they dont do well....not chase the competition because when they do....FAIL! I guess it's back to the drawing boards for Audi

Yes, like footie said: 300 lbs less and a supercharged 3.0l with 470 hp (quattro they already have and it is now better than xDrive) and the next RS5 is WIN. Except if it looks like the new A1, A7 and A8. These are IMO the most ugly Audi's.

I think you overstate the sentiment; not quite on a "god tier", but handily above Audi would probably be closer to the mark.

4 wheel drive is a 0-60 hinderance ........ I have beat the pants off my neighbor with a Porsche Carrara 4s 0-100 kmh's with my Challenger everytime we have raced. I have yet to beat a well driven M3, 135i, 335i or 335d......... pisses me off lol!!!

The German magazine "Auto Motor Und Sport" has finally done instrumented tests on the new Audi RS5:
--- 0-50 km/h in 1,7 s 0-100 km/h in 4,5 s 0-160 km/h in 10,1 s 0-200 km/h in 16,1 s 400 metres: 12,7 s (179 km/h) 80-120 km/h: 4,4 s/6,1 s/8,1 s/10,6 s (4th/5th/6th/7th gear) 18 m slalom: 66,5 km/h 110 m ISO test: 139,4 km/h Braking distance (100-0 km/h): 33,3 m/33,4 m (cold/warm) 1780kg measured weight Test car was equipped with optional Ceramic brakes(front only). --- Seem to be pretty identical to the DCT M3; maybe a tick or two slower. Some will paint this as a "fail", but I'm still impressed by the RS5 and hope it comes stateside at a reasonable price.

No, the RS5 is faster than M3 6MT. Only the M3 7DCT keeps up with the RS5. RS5 has advantage from start (perfect traction thanks to AWD), M3 has advantage at higher speed (less drivetrain loss with RWD).
Now, if the RS5 is not really faster than the M3, it does not mean it is worse. The RS5 does not have the same purpose as the M3, so there are many other things, where the RS5 is better than the M3 (I am not going to give any examples). When shall people understand that Audi is not the better BMW, but Audi is just another german premium brand? |
