The car that I had before I ordered my e90 m3, was a '06 evo ix mr. I had some minor mods on it including a reflash on the ecu which removed the speed limiter. I did about 162-163mph on it about 2 times during the two yrs. that I owned it.

I plan on taking my m3 well over that after I get the software updated as well.

Check my original reply...I said that "top speed is irrelevant for my purposes." You can do whatever you want with your top speed, and the next guy who spends several hundred thousand for his exotic can do what he wants with his. I'm not saying that having a car with a high top end is stupid, I'm just saying that I don't personally care because I don't drive that fast. But what's the difference between 200 mph and 170mph if you're not on the track or racing your car? Top speed is not the end all be all of the motorworld IMO.

Anyway, the car's not governed at 155 mph...so you're wrong there too.

It all comes down to gearing... M3 & M5 all do top speed in top gear... Many other manufactures do not... It was pretty cool in my M5 shifting to 6th gear at 185... and seeing it still pull on past 190.

To the guy that said the Digital Readout is a bit more accurate... you're right... and that's why I ran to 168 that is what the 'digital display' showed... and I stayed in it long enough to feel it 'flatten' due to the speed limiter.

DCStep (Dave)... actually I've found doing top speed runs up at high altitudes end up giving slightly 'higher' top speed numbers... it takes a little longer to get there... but the air being so much thinner starts to pay much bigger dividends up over 175MPH...

I have a GPS Detetcor in the car (along w/ V1 of course)... but the GPS/POS never keeps up, after about 150 it just blanks out and says 250... so no GPS verification for me... but at 100 MPH my GPS says 97 to 98MPH... so I'd agree Speedo is off about 3% if using the digital display.

Peace,
Dave

Would have gone faster but i was trying to stay within break-in RPMs
I was able to reach 140 mph last year at the Autobahn also. The car was also on break-in but the RPM was still below 5500 at that speed. It was stable and very compose.

I'm confused. I've only had my 09 E90 M3 for 3 days........are you saying the V= reading in the cluster is true whereas the speedo is underreading (which I know from previous GPS comparisons)?

They are both (speedo and digital) over-reading your actual speed. I have the Passport 9500i and when the digital speedo says 82 and I actually going 80 according the the GPS.

+1. My car's digital speed just translates the speedo's (100 was exactly 100, and am sure they're off a bit).
